Chronic Back Pain - anyone else?

I am female have had chronic back pain for about 6 years now (since about 6 months after the birth of my child). I have had xrays and scans and the result is it is ligament damage around my sacral joint, which I believe is quite common. I've been on and off anti-inflammatories over the years (they kill my stomach, so I can't stay on them for long) and attended physio for 2 terms (10 weeks at a time) but here I am, still suffering. I found both the physios spent the first few weeks talking to me, without giving me many exercises to heal the pain...

The pain is only on one side and is like a constant dull ache. I find it very difficult to sleep some nights (particular at the time of the month) as the pain seems to get worse. And getting out of bed in the mornings I'm like a 90year old woman. As I don't sleep well, I find most days I am just exhausted and feel unwell (obviously because of the tiredness).

I have put on weight which I know isn't helping, but I can't walk very fast or very far, without the pain overwhelming me.

I would just like to know if there are any other sufferers out there and if it can actually be fixed completely? I have been to two gps, both of whom told me it was a very common problem and yet, I can't find anyone who suffers the way I do.

Thank you. I had a read of that thread (it's pretty depressing!) and they all seem to have disc problems.

Thankfully (I think), I don't have disc problems at all. My problem is loose ligaments around my sacral joint, which is the joint that connects my pelvis to my spine. I have been told that you can't tighten ligaments, but that you can tighten the muscles around the ligaments. However, similar to alot of the people in that thread, I've had alot of physio and the pain is still as bad.

If anyone else has this problem, I'd really appreciate your advice. Thank you again.

I don't have any experience of this issue but I've had some back problems in the past and they've be fixed by a guy in co. limerick. I was so impressed by him I've brought friends and family to him, and I've recommended him to many people, every one who visited him was helped. If you want more information or contact details feel free to PM me.

I suffer from SI joint problems from bad biomechanics, ligament strain was suspected on one side.

Anyway, where are you based OP - I see a physio in Clondalkin, Dublin, I have only seen him 4 times since June - he gave me a program of core strength exercises to be getting on with - its helping a lot. He tells me it can take a year for this kind of problem to resolve but you gotta keep up with the exercises. Most physios are crap with pelvic pain - this guy is good.

I also get deep tissue massage every 3/4 weeks to release the overtightened muscles, which really relieves the symptoms a LOT.
