Going North for a crown

I've been quoted a four figure sum for 1 crown here in Dublin, is it worth my while going North for it? I'd rather get it done here and keep the few quid in the Irish economy but if it was half the price in the north it'd be foolish not to consider it. I know its against the rules to quote prices and dentists names so I won't but I have to ask the question, why?
I can go to any other forum on Boards and discuss prices of cars, cameras, other services etc and yet it's not allowed on dentistry. Why?

Because this is not the Moroccan Marketplace where we beat and bargain people down to the lowest cost possible and compromise quality in the process...
All previous threads on cost have decended into "here's cheaper, there's cheaper..." and no one is mentioning that yeah it's cheaper for a reason....!

You can get cheap and expensive treatment up north just like you can get cheap and expensive treatment down south- the difference is always quality and value for money... But what normally happens is people don't compare like with like and pick the cheapest guy up north to compare with the expensive guy down south....

    OS

If you want a cheap crown use google and you will find plenty of general dental practices that will do it for less than a 4 figure sum. It probably will not be as good.

any dentists I know do NOT charge 4 figure sums for a crown even if it is a gold crown or a post crown.
I agree quality comes at a price but not a ridiculous price, you should be able to find a dentist down south who will do crowns probably starting in the 600 teritory...my advice ring around and ask to see some of the dentists work- word of mouth matters!!

With the exception of the last poster, this is the ignorant responses I've come to expect on this forum.

"It's in the charter, that's why", beautifully well thought out, intelligent response.

"This is not a moroccan marketplace", nobody claimed it was or would want it to be.

Is it any wonder people are flocking to other countries to get work done with this attitude so rife:rolleyes:

    Good luck to ye!

Well seeing as your first post on the forum was to give out about the forum rules, which have been honed over the years and are there for very good reason, can you expect a warn reception?

You asked and answered your own question. Its because posters like yourself cannot accept that there is quality differences in dental work and as such cost differences. Crowns are custom made medical devices. The quality of which is totally dependant on who does it and how much time they spend on the job.

Do you go on the motors forum and ask. "I was quoted 60k for a new BMW is it possible to get a Kia for less in Northern Ireland". Are you one the food & wine forum wondering if you can get a bottle of wine for less than 40 euro? Are you on the camera forum asking if you can a camera for less than 5000 euro?

You dont because the answer is obvious. Inferior product or reduced spec costs less everywhere. 5 seconds on goggle would have told you this.

    Good luck to you. Closed.
