I have been informed that there is a 6 month, 1/2 a year, delay for Carers Allowance. My partner has been battling for 7 years with breast cancer and is now wheelchair bound. I think that the delay is totally unchristian and totally emoral.

So what is really going on. The over self important senior bureaucrats are still being totally overpaid along with many other overrated people at the expense of the people who are at the bottom and unable to fight their corner.

Bureaucrats making daft decisions e.g. - 400,000 euro for a piece of garden in the Mardyke Park in Cork for tourists - I don't think so! What about people who are really in need?

What other total waist of money is going on in the country - I am sure that there is plenty?:)

Unchristian? I don't think religion should come into the situation when you are talking about allocation of state benefits.

And immoral? I fail to see how a waiting list is immoral? I'm pretty sure they're not delaying these things on purpose. There is most probably a backlog.

Are you in receipt of carers allowance? If so, how long did it take for yours to come through? If not but you are waiting, how long have you been waiting?

The state is a Christian state and should try to behave in an appropriate manor - but then we are in the process of financial and moral collapse.

I have now been on the Carers Allowance waiting list 22 weeks - the excuse is that staff that leave are not being replaced - that makes it a purposeful delay.

An appropriate manner would be to leave religion out of the state. Just because the constitution references God, does not mean that the state is not secular.

Also, ireland is actually secular, whether it be "official" or not.

Not really. Their purpose is not to slow your process, the purpose is possibly to save money on salaries in implimenting cuts.

Sorry for your troubles. Have you tried contacting the local community welfare officer for an exceptional needs payment?

If the staff were replaced, there would be a lower budget available for carer's allowance. As it stands, the HSE is threatening to close entry to many schemes untilt he new year.

More correctly, the state has certain facets from the Christian tradition, which the majority of the population have tradtionally belonged to. It is a secular state.

It implies it, but OK - leave religion out - there should be a moral code of conduct.

Perhaps it is a win-win situation for the bureaucrats compiling reports for Europe?

Cutting staff at the bottom is not the answer - reduce the mid and upper managements pay and pensions to a realistic level.

Did I hear Joan Burton say that 42% of the civil service are on pay levels above that that they should be on? Is this fraud? (a bit like welfare fraud?).
