Next of Kin

    A Gentleman who is in his late 60's lives in a religious order and most of his family live in kerry,

    Apparently he needs a Next of Kin and because he has no family in Dublin, they all live in Kerry

    i think its some new thing with the Hse , he asked me to be his next of Kin , which was also suggested from the Head person in order,

    i just want to know am i allowed to be his next of kin, even thoughh im not family ?

    and if so am i the one that has to make decisions etc if this person is ill in hospital

    im not too pushed about been this

    any clues or ideas???
