Can pick up an 04 manual handy enough. Any weak points on these I should be looking out for?

A good friend has one with over 200k miles on it now, an auto, he got if for free off his father in law as the turbo was gone on it. Recon'd turbo installed by another friend and she's been fine since, nothing out of the ordinary has given trouble really. Fine bus really in fairness to it.

Probably 40/50% more to fuel than your Avensis though.

I just bought a 2008' one a few weeks ago, it's a great car I love it!. I have not found any weak points as yet as I have not had it long enough to start finding things to complain about. I'm still getting to know it, the turbo is smooth enough and it's very quiet. I'd drive this thing over a 3 series anyday:D

    is it thirsty mondeo?

Thirsty yes, but definitely a step above a 1.8 Mondeo in power and arguably cabin quality / comfort.

Is it the facelift or the pre-facelift model, Colm?

    is it thirsty mondeo?

Yes it is I'm afraid, petrol turbo cars are always going to be thirsty but it's not too bad if your taking it easy.
