    Hi all,

Need some advice regarding the Revenue.
Today I have got an email from Revenue, (my PPS no. as subject), requesting by a person form Revenue my address, and other personal informations.
He said that the postman returned them a letter sent to me, because I changed my address. He also said that this was the only way to contact me.
I thought that is a scam but I went to the revenue office and asked if the Revenue is entitle to contact people by email.....she said Noooooooooo, we never do this. I showed her the emails.............She said, well, we had no other way to contact you, sorry.
I gave them my new address a few times, I went personally and filled up the address form, but they still had the old one.
According to link below from Revenue…The Revenue Commissioners never send emails which require customers to send personal information via email or pop-up windows
    http://www.revenue.ie/en/spotlights/email-scam-warning.html
They did it to me today.
    Her is the email…

    Dear Mr…….

Correspondence was issued to the address shown below. It was returned by An Post. The envelope was marked: Gone Away.

To ensure all correspondence issued by Revenue reaches you, please enter details of your current official address.
    Old address…….. New address….

    Regards
His name (I do not want to make it public)

Read the wording carefully. Sounds like they can request the details by email, but not actually receive the details officially by email (coz of security).

Use the PAYE anytime system to keep a track of the details Revenue has on record for you.

That way you will know what address they are using, and if this is actually a scam

One way to find out...RING them and make them aware of the email. If it's genuine, grand, and if not you'll know, and let them take appropriate action.

Sigh... it's not a scam. Maybe I'm not tech-savvy enough, but surely if the return email address is xyz@revenue.ie then it can only be going to someone in Revenue...?

As Srsly78 already pointed out, they aren't REQUIRING the OP to reply to the email, just trying to elicit a response of some sort, seeing as they can't contact the taxpayer by the only other means available to them - wouldn't it be worse if they simply didn't bother their arse trying to contact the OP at all - "Oh well, if the letters are coming back not known at this address sure what can we do..."

They are only seeking an address and not sensitive infromation like a bank account.

    Storm in a teacup tbh
