I wouldn't take advice from Boards on such an issue, look up the Dutch sites. But to enter a Schengen country a Schengen visa is needed, although having a student visa in Ireland might make easier to get one.

Not directly related to the OPs question but I noticed sometrhing similar once.

Was on a a train from Germany to Holland sitting beside a girl from UAE that was studying in Germany and on her way to visit a friend in Holland
Dutch and German border officials got on board and asked everyone for passports, Ids etc.
The UAE girl only had here UAE ID and her German student visa documentation with her and no passport.
Dutch border official read her the riot act (quiet rightly) about not having a passport with her.
The German border official got on the phone to confirm that the girl was legit and did actually have valid student visa for Germany.
They let he continue but the Dutch official warned her that if he did not have the German official with him that day she would have been brought to a detention centre until they determined of she was legit or not.

I can tell you from someone I know , getting a Shengen visa from the Dutch is pretty difficult , they will want lots of documentation etc .
