He will not retire in my opinion, i think he's using it as a bargaining tool to get Vitali to push for the fight.

Retire me hole. We all know what retirement means in boxing. He's still able to command strong pay for his fights, and is still in his prime - he won't be retiring anytime soon.

Haye has always said he will retire at 30. That said if the right fight with the right money comes I would expect his retirement not to be worth the paper its written on.

I think it's a ploy to get one last big fight, I don't see him bothering with fighting the likes of Adamek, Solis or Povetkin in future as they are fights he could lose and don't come with the financial reward a fight with one of the brothers does.

Who cares. Will he be missed?

Good riddance, maybe there is room on "Strictly come dancing" with Fraudley.

    Well not as a heavyweight...

I'm sick of the bad comments being made about Haye. Yes, he had a lacklusture performance against Wlad. Saying he isnt a true heavyweight though? Look what he did to Ruiz, a rugged proven heavyweight. A slower less mobile Vitali is much more up Haye's street.

Although i do want to see Vitali knock the stuffing out of him!

Eh, I'd widen that to not as a boxer

And, Vitali won't knock the stuffing out of him. It would be another snoozefest and choreographed sham!

I enjoyed watching him as a cruiserweight.

I despised his lame attempts at humour and putdown towards the brothers, and I think his manager is a cretin. I also think his heavyweight record is retarded.

But would I like to see fights between him and Adamek or Solis, competitive fights with decent boxers? Yeah I would.

I think he can certainly still compete, but his retiring means little to me. I couldn't care less I suppose, as his style of late is just poor.

Both the Klitschkos will play mind games with him now, "he never reached his true potential" etc.

I couldnt care less if he retires, but it would be nice to see Vitali bash him.

For free yes, but Haye doesn't deserve millions for either running away or getting bashed.

I too would like to see Vitali hammer him. But I can't help but expect Haye to prance around the ring for 12 rounds just so he lives to cash his cheque. He could well give Vitali a frustrating night (ala Kevin Johnson).

Just heard on the wireless there, he's retired.

Seems he has retired, I cant see him entering into long arduous negotiations with Vitali,it would be to much hastle and i dont think hes even confident about hes chances anyway.

With nowhere else to go all he can do is retire IMO.

Haye is on SS1 Ringside discussing his retirement.

Hes retiring & looking to take up a career in acting.

Sure hasn't he been acting like a heavyweight boxer for ages now. :pac:

No. The usual he was exciting and great, and the Klits were not. Unreal, consdering he got whupped by Klit. Slagging off their opposition.
Him being one of them, and him being one that was easily handled.

Edit: He also did not fully rule out a fight with Vitali. "Highly doubt a return" was what he said.

Haye will be back when the time is right. Mark my words.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭bellybuster12

Haye likes money and been on tv and the sound of his own voice, the boxing was just to keep him busy. :D

The only way i can see him coming back is if other ventures dont work out(which is highly possible).

dont think we have seen the last of him! hes still only 31! which is very young for a heavyweight to retire!

He may wait for the two klitscho brothers to retire before making his comeback and mouthing off about them!

People let the words colour their opinions of Haye - even despite being a natural cruiserweight he's one of, if not the, leading contender(s) for the best heavyweight in the world picture outside of the brothers.

He goes too far, sure, but do I prefer what he does to two stalid and stilted fighters desperately trying to give the impression of animosity in the pre-fight hype? Damn straight I do.

Roll on the Vitali fight. I'd almost want him to win just to see the reaction of people who despise him.

Based on beating Valuev, Ruiz, Fraudley and having it handed to him (like every other fighter) by the so-called weaker Klitschko?

I'd actually weep for humanity if a Vitali fight generates the same hype and interest as his last fight.

I don't know if this is another one of the drop a name lines used to create a bit of hype but I'm gonna agree with Syferus. He is a top name (not the leading contender) but Pokvekin won't fight either Wlad or Vitali, Helenius will prob be kept out of range for another year or two, Tyson Fury is no where near the finished article, Chisora would be no different to Sam Peter when he fought Vitali in 2008(not Wlad cos he had some fight in him then).
Eddie Chambers, Tony Thompson and Arreola would all come up short again.

If this fight is made, Haye would def need to fight and not survive.
I still wouldn't be surprised thou if Arreola's name pops up.

I thought Vitali looked very old, tired and heavy legged in his last fight. Don't think Vitali would beat Haye as easily as people think. A few years ago yes, easily, but unless it's my imagination I think he's deteriorated quite a bit.
