M50 Toll unpaid - No letter

I went through the M50 toll over a week and a half ago and forgot to pay the toll. I only remembered last Friday so went down home (where car is registered) to check for a letter. There was no letter. Now I'm wondering did the camera pick me up at all. I went on the eflow site to pay the penalty but you can't look up by reg, you need a number from the letter. I also went to just pay but that doesn't look anything up, it just calculates how much you would owe if you made that journey and charges you. I don't want to pay the three euro and then get fined.

How long does the letter usually take?

I know the first late fine is an extra three euros, how long before it goes up again?

    Any other advice?

Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place.

Ring them with your reg and pay.

Suppose it's the best way. Cheers.

That reminds me. I think I need to pay also. I'm not 100% sure if the exit I took was before or after the toll (i can never remember exactly where the toll is). Must check the post!

    Hi Budgemook,

Glad to hear you got everything sorted when you rang.

If you would like to avoid the 8pm deadline going forward, you can always register your vehicle for automatic payment. Our video account is free to set up and free to maintain and you get your journeys 50c cheaper. More information is available on www.eflow.ie or else give us a call on 1890-50-10-50.

Also if you have any further queries or if you ever need us to check anything out for you, we have our own talk to forum on boards.ie, http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1496

    Hope that helps,

    Ciaran :)

Ring them and set up automatic payment, or get a tag and ask them to drop the fine.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - for the sake of €12 a year the tags are the handiest thing in the world. Work on every motorway in Ireland.

The only problem is you'll use them more - you won't be avoiding them because you don't have the cash ;)

If only you could transfer the tag between cars, without having to ring them up and tranfer the reg details as well (like you used to be able to do before barrier free), my life would be soo much easier.

Small price to pay for the additional hour and a half of my life I have back though I suppose.

    Hi R. O. R

Unfortunately you can't swap the tags between vehicles, you do need to give us a call to reassign the tag from one vehicle to another, call us on 1890-50-10-50 if you need us to do this.

However we will try and try and look into giving users the power to do this themselves through the website. Thanks for the feedback and if you have anymore we would be glad to hear it.

    Hope that helps :-)

    Ciaran.

    Hi everyone,

Just to add: if you miss the toll payment deadline of 8pm the following night, the letter will be issued, but if you have a credit card or debit card, there is no need to wait for the letter (which, as has been pointed out, goes to the address to which the vehicle is registered) – it is only required for making payment online or at a Payzone outlet. The letter is not required to pay a late toll/penalty over the phone, and our customer service line, 1890-50-10-50, a locall number, is open from 7am to 11pm seven days a week.

Also, as Ciaran has said, the video account is ideal for an infrequent user of the M50 as there is no cost besides the reduced cost of the toll if you use it (the video account is M50 only as there is no tag).

    All the best :)
    John

    Hey John
I assume there is a tag that can be used on all/most motorways that you just top up or something? I wouldn't use it a lot, but id use different ones a fair bit - mainly the the M9, M6 and M50.

Secondly, any idea what the letter envelope looks like? A lot of post here I haven't had a chance to open so if I could skip to the letter which has my fine it would be great (not 100% sure I used the M50 toll but I think I did!)!

I have a tag account but leave my tag at home ;)

The reason being i drive to work via the M50, but on the way home i take the east link, which i like to use change. Gets rid of all my spare change and means my eflow bill will be about €34 less a month.

Ciaran/john can you tell me if there is any problem with this, the m50 cameras will pick up my reg and i will be charged the same €2.

    Hi Sully,

Firstly, all tags work on all toll points, they are required to be interoperable. Our Tag can be Pre-Paid, i.e. you top-up €40.00 initially, when the credit drops to €12.00, an automatic top-up of a minimum of €30.00 happens. We also have a Post -Paid option (similar to Bill-Pay). Basically, no money required up front. we take note of all your journeys during a month. At the end of the month, we send you a statement, then, from the 12th day of the following month, we automatically take payment for the tolls and tag hire fee (€1.21/month).

Our envelopes are white with eFlow printed on them and they have the little window with your name and address visible. Any doubts about whether you used the M50, call us on 1890-50-10-50 7am to 11pm and we will check for you and give you further info on Tag/Video accounts.

Generally, if any person uses the M50 and other tolls on a reasonably regular basis (for example 2 times a week), a Tag would be recommended.

    Hope this helps,

    John

    Hi Cisk,

You are correct that even if the tag isn't in the vehicle we will still pick up your journeys on the M50 from the license plate on the vehicle and they will go onto your account at €2 per trip.

However we would advised that you keep the tag mounted in the vehicle, as if the tag isn't mounted it can lead to a delay in journeys showing up on the system for you as they may have to be reviewed manually. This is because when the cameras pick up your license plate the system is expecting a tag signal also so it goes for manual review to make sure its the correct license plate.

Also by keeping the tag in your vehicle you have the added benefit not needing the change at all, so if for whatever reason you forget your wallet you won't have to worry as you have the automatic payment, also you can save yourself time as you have the use of the express lane so you get home sooner ;)

If its a case that you need a new tag holder send a PM to either myself, John or Una and we would be happy to get one sent out for you.

    Hope that helps,

    Ciaran :)

    Hi Ciaran/John

Does that mean if i decide to take the tag down to say use a toll bridge and pay cash at the time that it will still charge to my post paid toll account??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,095 ✭✭✭ANXIOUS

Quick question, say someone has approx 60 unpaid journeys. I've never received a solicitor's letter. Would e flow be open to settling for the toll amount + the extra 3euro?

    Hi tea2011,

No, if the tag is not present in your vehicle at other toll points, the system has nothing to read, so nothing can register to your tag account/statement, therefore payment in cash would be required in lieu.

If a customer has a tag account, the monthly charge of €1.21 per month per vehicle applies whether the tag is in the vehicle or not, as the M50 toll charges are at the tag-registered rate.

    Regards :)

    Hi ANXIOUS,

For that kind of query we would need to look at the vehicle history for specifics – if the registered owner were to send us (myself, John and Ciaran) a group private message with the licence plate number, name/address to which the vehicle is registered, and confirmation that they are the registered owner, we could investigate no problem.

If transactions are gone to legal stage, we would be obliged to pass the customer to the legal team.

    Regards :)
    Una
