Peter McDermott, also known as the man in the cap, has passed away aged 93.
He was a member of the first Meath team to win the All Ireland Championship in 1949. He also captained Meath to the All Ireland championship in 1954. As well as playing, refereed the '53 and '56 All Ireland finals, coached Down to the All Ireland in 1960 and coached the Meath 1967 All Ireland winners. He managed the Ireland compromise rules team in 1984 also.

He was way before my time but very few Meath fans grow up without hearing the story of 'The Man in the Cap'. A true Meath and GAA legend.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
