Buying a Laptop Bag

I've just gotten a 15.6" laptop for college. I'm commuting between trains and buses in Dublin. I'm looking for a pretty protective laptop case with a reasonable price point for a student (approximately €50, but it'd want to be pretty decent for that price!).

What kind of bags should I be looking for? I was thinking of a backpacks-style job but on my course I've got to carry a few thick, heavy books so I'd be a little cautious of damaging the screen if I put the books in with the laptop.

Maybe something like a messenger bag would suit me best, if I've a schoolbag of books already? It's got to have a comfortable shoulder strap too because I'll be walking a little bit with it. I don't want a really clumsy, ugly one either. Maybe some kind of armoured sleeve and a bigger schoolbag would be enough?

I'm in Dublin city centre, if anyone has any suggested places to look. Maybe someone knows some websites?

Any advice at all appreciated :)

I love crumpler stuff but it's expensive:

Crumpler laptop bags in TK Maxx Carrickmines. 30 euro or thereabouts. Red in colour, nice bag. Might be worth checking it out. Bring your laptop to make sure it fits.
