Very stressed and depressed at work

    Hi,

I've been going through a very bad time in work for a long time.
I'm not sure, but I think I suffer from depression and stress and/or anxiety. Going to work is like a nightmare for me, while I walk to the office in the morning, I start feeling my breathing getting obstructed, I get pain in my stomach.
I start working at 8 and very rarely I go to lunch before 2-2:30. We cannot have our break until we complete our work. I feel nervous for not being able to eat, I always get dizzy.
There's a lot of pressure due to lack of staff, more job for people remaining, most times I feel like I really cannot cope. I keep making mistakes and everything becomes worse. I just go to the bathroom and cry. Unuseful to say that we do overtime almost every day.
I have other interests to keep myself busy, I do some volunteering to realize there are people who have serious problems, but despite that I really feel low. I have constant thoughts of suicide, just don't have the courage to do it.
I just would like to have a break, I don't want to leave this job in this difficult time and then regret it.
Do you think there is a chance to take a break if I speak to a doctor? I feel like I really need it, I'm deeply exhausted.
    Thank you.

Be cautious about self diagnosis. Your physical and mental condition could be the result of anything, or a combination of things. Work conditions, diet, sleep apnea, etc. It's hard to be sure. The best way to begin diagnosis though, and get yourself to a better place, is to speak with a GP. All the best

Definatley see your gp. He/she could sign you off work due to stress. And refer you to a counsellor to deal with the issues you mentioned. I would do this urgently if i were you as you cant conntinue on like this, it is not good for your mental or physical health. Good luck and please seek medical help asap.

    Few things OP
Don't do what many do and that's drink wine every night. It's very common

If you can work in some sort of exercise program that would be pretty cool, you already have some activities so that's good

Maybe you are in bed at night and your mind is racing. Have a notebook and pen and write down what you're thinking. Could end up being all random and pretty unreadable like a James Joyce book but it's not there for reading back, just to get it out and it helps you relax

I'm not saying work even longer hours but come in a bit early if it helps.
Some good organization at the start of the day means you are not chasing and playing catchup

Being dizzy at your desk, yeah I've been there, drink plently of water and also this forces you to take toilet breaks, gets away from the desk even for a minute or two. Have some fruit with you, avoids the dizziness

I went to a GP with much the same as you, bursting into tears at home and panic attacks at my desk
That's the advice I was given and it helped a lot

The next step is drugs but that's for you and your GP to discuss
It's very common anyway, any GP can help you
