    Hey all,

I'm looking for a set of 4 BFGs.

Where did you get yours & how much did you pay? I can get them from Paddocks for €130 each & get all 4 fitted for €50, giving me a total of €610 (allowing €40 postage) can anyone beat that price in Ireland?

If your a tyre fitter PM me with a price.

That's exactly what I did with my MTs but my brother in law took the prices to his local tyre place and they nearly matched them. It was worth the bit extra as it avoided the waiting around for delivery etc.

OP, BFG AT's at that price are a bargain. They are the mutts nuts in my experience.

Thats cheap for those tyres now. They are around 180 usually here.
I have the exact same ones that I got from Camskill back in January 08 I paid 100ea at that time as Stg=Euro I out them on about 6mths later and they have still half their tread left.
I'd get them again without a doubt

how do they preform in the snow/ice and stopping in the wet ??

i am thinking about changing from MT's to the BF AT's

Purely because of the tread design with more sipes and grooves they'll be better than MTs in those situations. I've never had problems with my MTs but will be fitting ATs next time

Fantastic for snow/ice. Not a bother in the rain.

Try Bradys in Arklow. Brendan is usually hard to beat for BFG prices.

I had them on last winter and it rained/hailed on frozen roads, the result was a slightly textured icy surface that was very slippery.
I stopped at the bottom of a hill to help a woman in an Avensis with 3 kids onboard who was just sitting and spinning the wheels.
I got out and fell on my ass, gingerly moving to the rear of my TLC I hooked her up with a good length of towline.
The Landcruiser towed her up that icy hill no problem at all with no drama or hassle. I was mightily impressed by that.
How much of that was tyres and how much was due to vehicle I don't know but they are great tyres without doubt in my mind.
My BFG's have the Mountain/Snowflake symbol on them, not sure if they all do.

hands down the best AT tyre you can get IMHO, very good all round tyre for on/off-road performance and you get amazing wear out of them, well worth every penny.

I got mine (BFG AT K.O. 275/70/R16, not sure if the K.O. makes much difference in price, if any) from Discount tyres in Rosemount business park near Blanchardstown about a year and a half ago for €170 each inc. fitting.

they're still on my LWB 1996 2.8L Pajero and I've covered heaps of miles since then (inc. last winter) and they're still going strong with a decent amount of tread left.

I was out in the absolute worst of the weather last year to collect my wife from work after the buses and trains stopped on her way home and she was stranded at Ashtown.

the roads were blocked with traffic going out to the N3/M50 junction, so i swung back round and headed back through ashtown and the back end of Finglas along the Ratoath road and up past Cappagh hospital, then all the way round the back rounds all the way home to Navan without any problems, despite pretty much everything else getting stuck at some stage or another, including a land cruiser which followed me up to the halfway point on the big hill on the ratoath road before grinding to a halt, which i reckon was most likely due to having summer road tyres on.

i should probably mention that i was recovering from a prolapsed disc at the time and had already set my recovery back a long way helping someone out who was stuck a few days earlier and could hardly walk straight so i wasn't in much of a position to help anyone else at that time, otherwise i'd have lent a hand to anyone i'd found stranded.

awesome tyres anyway and i don't see myself ever using a different brand, they are the best all round AT choice. good on and off the road and everything in between. :)

actually, for anyone who understands how tyre sizes actually work, do you think I'd be able to fit 285/75/R16's on my Pajero without them rubbing? the current 275/70/R16's seem to have plenty of clearance, although they are a little bigger than the standard tyres, so I'm wondering how big i could go before needing a suspension or body lift.

    Tyre sizes work like this:

275/70 mean the tyre width is 275mm and the profile is 70% of 275mm=192.5mm

285/75 mean the tyre width is 285mm and the profile is 75% of 285mm= 213.75mm sidewall height.
Other factors come into play as well not just the profile/width its also how the tyre inflates, some tyres have a round edge, some like the BFG ATs have a square profile that rubs more.

You'll probably find advice as to what fits on the UK Shogun forum. As CJ says it's relatively easy to work out diameters but there's online tyre calculators out there.

If nothing else they'll make your turning circle bigger, cure is rims with more offset or wheel spacers You may find a bit of wheel arch trimming is involved. Could affect your speedo reading but on a Defender it actually makes it accurate!
