Need help with a quick question.

If I write to a company asking for their tax clearance cert, do they have to furnish me with one?

If not then would a creditor of a company be entitled to ask for one?

No they wouldn't- why would you need one anyway?

    I don't see why.

Revenue deal with clearance certificates here: http://www.revenue.ie/en/business/running/tax-clearance.html#verify

    They say, in part,

The requirement to produce a Tax Clearance Certificate usually arises in the context of a person seeking State money (e.g. Government contracts, grants) or obtaining licences (e.g. excise licence, road transport licence) but can also arise in other cases (e.g. the Standards in Public Office Act, 2001 recently applied tax clearance requirements to persons elected to the Dail or Seanad, judicial appointees and senior office appointees). Apart from situations where a person is legally required to produce a Tax Clearance Certificate, Revenue is also prepared to issue a Certificate to any customer whose tax affairs are in order.

Under the last bit, a taxpayer might choose to show you his clearance certificate (if he has one - many businesses don't have them or need them) but it's his choice, and I don't see that you can compel its production.

These come from the Revenue. You can ask one from them if you want.
The revenue send these to your job electroniclly, they don't get them hard copy.

Obviously I have a reason, I do not want to go into detail on this thread though.
