Crossroads - Will I need more than experience?

Quick Intro...35year old with over 12years experience in sales, retail and management. Currently working in a medical device factory (1 year) due to my last employer going out of business (8 years there). Trying to get back into retail management and getting interviews and down to the short-list on some occasions so I'm confident I'll get back eventually..thankful I have a job.

Question is I'm thinking of the long term future and wondering what formal education will help me to further my career in the future. Because I have quite a bit of experience would I be grand with a course like a FETAC level 6 certificate in Management, or would I be better of studying for a degree in Economics and management (distance learning) or would it be worth the money.

I know one answer won't fit every person or every employer but I'd love to hear a few second opinions before I make up my mind.

    Regards....Tipp man
