in Waterford at the moment there are clubs that are offering €2 entry midweek and ALL drinks €2.

At the weekend there's a club that has free entry and all drinks €3, and another that has €5 in and ALL drinks €2.50.

Is there anything like this in your town? Or is Waterford the first county to hit rock bottom with pub drink prices?

    Wasn't happyhour pricing made illegal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,547 ✭✭✭Agricola

You're only talking about promo pricing in clubs though yeah?

Havent been down there in along time but I always thought Waterford was the most expense town to drink in in the south east.

Whats the problem?? we are getting cheap drink so we can go out and get smashed... isnt that what every teenager is looking for these days:D
All these clubs in town are struggling so badly that they have to give drink out for hardly anything.. the reason they are struggling is the fact that the desent people that use to drink in town wont go near the place anymore because every pub and club is full of knackers and scumbags. if you look sideways at anyone they want to ''bust yer ed boi''. Easy solution...if the clubs and bars stop selling drink to these degenrate filth the nice ordinary people will start going back into town and its reputation might get better.Hard to believe but its true....

I'd say those pints you would be getting for two euro would be pretty watery somehow.

Anyway, got a beating up there once that was on par with something out of Transformers, and I don't wish to experience that again so they can stick their cheap, watery beer in their dark place.

Leaving Ireland behind is going to be a hell of a lot easier after a night out in Waterford.

That's only because the new nightclub has opened up and is trying to run everyone else out of business.

It's really not that bad. In saying that I've actually only been out there for the tall ships, but that was really good. Once you get past the accent, it's actually alright.

Try living here, I don't think I know anyone over the age of 18 who has a positive view of the place. In fairness though the forum can be a good night out if not a bit expensive compared to the other clubs around.

My parents moved to Dungarvan. So on a scale of Dungarvan to Awesome where would Waterford fit in?

I was in Harveys - I genuinely quite liked the place until it got over crowded & the door woman was mighty rude, but they're everywhere I suppose!

Are the pints in question bottles of Guinness that have been left out next to a roaring fire ?

Theres a place in Sligo selling Vodkas for 1.50. Mixers are free. Free entry.

Six doubles for less than 20 quid! Its a dirty shithole...but I've enjoyed it a few times too many!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,824 ✭✭✭RoyalMarine

masons nightclub last year were the first with 3 for €10, and on some occasions, 4 for €10.

this year, harveys are doing the €2 entry with all drinks €2.
the foundry are also doing this offer, but €5 in with €2 drinks for student nights out.
on weekends, its €2 entry and €2.50 drinks.

the drinks are not watered down...
    the bottles are not opened...
and no, its not all guiness thats left beside a roaring fire.

We obviously don't know each other then ;) . It does seem to be improving lately with the cheap drinks. I guess I'm still bitter from Electric Avenue closing down :P

I hate coming home from college and going out in town (rarely do anymore unless its someones birthday) The 2 clubs are a tenner to get into and drinks are a fiver. The underage scum of the town hang around outside looking for fights.
On bank holidays they overfill the place by at least double what they should have in there, you cant even move in the hallways by the toilets.

Clubs in Letterkenny doing drink for 80 and 90 cent.

    Needless to say, carnage ensues.

That town really doesn't need any encouragement

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letterkenny#Crime
Letterkenny is one of the worst towns in Ireland for public order offences. There were a total of 777 public order offences recorded in the town in 2003 with 1505 recorded in 2008. These statistics place Letterkenny as the sixth worst town in Ireland for public order offences, worse than the notoriously dangerous Dublin suburbs of Coolock and Clondalkin.[26] This should be placed in the context of the size of Letterkenny, and against a backdrop of a busy nightlife in town, especially on weekends.

The Main Street has seen numerous assaults,[30] stabbings,[31][32][33][34] sexual assaults,[35][36] drug raids[37] and attacks on Gardaí[38] in the past. Drug crime has become a problem in recent years, notably in the now demolished mart building.[39]

It's a really nice place and all that, great smoking area but at the end of the day that's a a pretty big if. When I'm down there it's Benners or the Abbey at the end of the night. Is there even much of a student crowd going out there now? I was home for a funeral during freshers week and the taxi driver who took me home said the place was dead.

I was in Waterford today, it has the nearest Debenhams to where I live and I needed something there- and the bit of the city I was in (the shopping centre and that squarey bit around Penneys) was like a ghost town. I know Mondays are generally more quite everywhere, but it was really bad in Waterford. I think there were me and maybe 3 other people upstairs in Debenhams, and I was in Boots and there were 2 other people in it.

These are big successful chainstores, and they can't even get people in to shop. What hope do small independent shops have? I have to say, I felt a bit depressed walking around. County Waterford is a lovely place, but the city needs perking up big time. I suppose trying to improve nightlife might help, but all round it just seemed a bit sad there today :(

This post is pretty dumb. Most people I meet in pubs no matter where I am are perfectly nice people. There are a few bars and clubs I wouldn't go near but most pubs are full of perfectly reasonable people.

Jäger Special 3 drinks for €5 in foundry Waterford there 2 weeks ago.
The clubs are still fairly dead though except for Tuesdays,Wednesdays & the Weekends.
Bouncers are still shocking and the town itself is rough.
Probable only a matter of time before other counties start these offers anyway.
