I'm currently getting my Bus & Rail annually ticket through work with €100 taking out of my monthly wage, would it be cheaper for me to get weekly tickets etc..

    any feedback would be great

    1. would you need 52 weekly tickets?

    2. you also get a tax deduction based on the ticket so the cost is not a net €100 a month

How would I get tax deduction?

    You already have it.

Your monthly ticket if bought in the ticket/booking office would cost a lot more than €100 a month, it is already a lot cheaper by having the tax reduced and afaik the overall ticket cost is also reduced.

Monthly tickets are generally cheaper than buying individual weekly tickets, plus if you're getting tax relief (which I'm assuming you are if it's coming directly from your wages) then that's an even greater saving.

If you want to save more, you should consider getting an annual ticket, which works out cheaper when broken down on a monthly basis. The amount is deducted monthly from your wages just like your current ticket.

Presumably the tickets are being bought through the Taxsaver scheme by your company - therefore you are obtaining relief from Income Tax, PRSI and USC.

You can only get this relief from monthly or annual tickets and not weekly tickets.

Weekly tickets are more expensive than monthly or annual tickets.
