    I have a BMW E39 520 2.2 PETROL M-SPORT.

Im going to buy winter tyres to be safe this year.

Id prefer to get new alloys and snow tyres on them and there is a set on ebay for €600 but they dont deliver to Ireland.

Anyone know where I can get them?

You'd buy a complete e39 for 600 quid these days! Ring around to a few scrappies maybe?

Winter tires ain't much better in the snow than all season tires....you'd need studded tires to improve grip and they can't really be used on salted roads.

But ya a scrap yard or look for someone breaking one on donedeal

This is incorrect, Winter tyres are a lot different in snow than All seasons.

Right gents, have this discussion in the winter tyre thread if you wish. Dont drag this off-topic.

I don't think you're going to get new tyres & alloys for that money, but I ordered from these guys last week, tyres & wheels were delivered this morning, and they're exactly what I ordered (week of manufacture of tyres was 33/11!)

    www.tyremen.co.uk.

Eiretyres also deliver tyres mounted on wheels, although I think they do steelies only. FWIW, i'd recommend that you get steel wheels and spend the savings on better tyres.

    +1 on that

even if the steel wheels look horrible they will bring you less sorrow. Alloys are good looking stuff but if you slide into kerb or rock you'd be happier to pay for fixing steel wheels then for alloys. Salt on the roads also like to leave marks on alloys.

OP you will get a set of E39 alloys from a scrapper for 120-150 Euro. Go for the 15" rims so you can fit a higher profile tyre. You can try Border Motor Works (in the North); and I believe there's a BMW scrapper somewhere along the Naas Road.

Then go to somewhere like Autodepot in Cookstown and get four new winter tyres for about 300 Euro fitted. Wherever you get them, MAKE SURE they are proper Winter Tyres, they will have a snowflake symbol against a mountain on the sidewall. Walk away from anything else ('all season', etc).

Total price about 450. And absolutely 100% worth doing. It could save your bacon.

Will 15"s fit over the brakes on an E39 520i?

    Uh, yea...unless it's an M5 IIRC :D

The normal E39 5-series cars came with 15" rims, you could upgrade to larger rims with low profiles, and the M-sport flavours came with 17" IIRC.

The usual tyre on the 15" rims is a 225 60 15 and a good winter tyre for the same rims is a 205 65 15.

The E60 5 series has bigger disks allright and takes a a 17" rim or bigger.
