Winter, just as good as any other time of the year for fishing.
Deadbaiting for pike (brilliant!), roach fishing (just as good as summer!), pier/sea fishing (good to pass the time), if you fly fish hit the stocked lakes with sinking lines, the list goes on..........
Might give tench fishing a miss!

The Somerset levels are good, Huntspill river and vaious land drains around the area. I've also heard northern france can be quite good. East england has some good areas, Norfolk fens etc

I'm off to Inchigeelagh on Saturday for a pike competition, has a number of good pots and has been good this year.
Loads of spots in Macroom, you need a permit for those.
