    GF is currently looking at 2008 one of these and I was wondering if there's anything with the model to watch for? Anything similar that you would recommend?

    Reliability wise, there isn't too much that generally goes wrong on the current model Mondeo. Clutch and Fly wheel is an expensive job to do because of the time it takes.

    Get the GF to take a test drive in the car before doing anything else, see if she could live with the rather appaling (IMHO) power delivery traits of that particular engine. Even Ford would rather not talk about the 1.8 diesel engine in the Mondeo.

    The 100ps version of the engine is actually easier to get moving. Doesn't have the same punch as the 125ps version, but also doesn't have quite as big a hole in the torque at low revs.

    Anyone looking at a 1.8TDCi should consider looking at the UK and the 2.0TDCi.

    1.8 = 149 Co2
    2.0 = 139 Co2

    The engine is more modern and has a better power delivery, it is better in every way than the 1.8.

    Also consider a Zetec over and Edge, which are pretty basic.

    I think even in the UK that the low emissions 2.0Tdci wasn't available in 2008.

    The first Mondeo to break the 140g barrier was the 1.8Tdci ecoNETIC - our first of these models was registered October 2008.
