Volvo S70 - ETS warning and loss of power

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help with the following issue.
I have a 2000 Volvo S70 2litre petrol & usually drives very well but every so often the ETS warning light lights up and then the car starts to lose power. If I don't stop immediately it starts to shudder. Usually I pull in and sit at
side of road for five mins or so and then drive on. There's no consistency
to how often this happens e.g. last week I had to stop about ten times during 1 trip and any time I've driven it since it has been fine.
Have replaced the throttle housing, gasket and mass airflow system five yrs
    ago. Cheers

Sounds like ETM (Electronic Throttle Module) failure to me. The last of the the S70's had these and they are known to be a bit of a disaster.

You should join up and post on the UK Volvo forums (http://www.volvoforums.org.uk), as there are many members on there who have experienced this and will be able to advise you on the best course of action to take..

back in april my volvo v50 petrol kept loosing power ( and never in the greatest of places) and after many many visits to garages the final solution came from one of them putting in a new throttle position sensor ie a potentiometer, logically not for free as car is an 08.
i dont know if this any help to yourself and it may be what volvo man has suggested above but as im no mechanic i will apologise if it is the same.

There was a big thing about them ETM problems. In America people were getting them done for free. from 1999-2001 (I think) all ETM suppose to go wrong!

    That said bought 1999 s70 2 days ago :D
