I have just finished watching Dic Warners royal canal program.
I was intrigued by that lovely stoneworked bath/spa which I have worked out must be before Louisa Bridge. Does anyone know anything about it and where exactly it is? He said it was smelly water so it must be sulpher.
We seem to have so few mineral springs, pity they aren't developed.

Yes, I've been there: it's very close to the railway station - just across the bridge, as far as I remember, and down the towpath a little, say 100-150 yards. It's pretty cute if you're in that neck of the woods... Plus, a little further along the canal is a nice detour down from the bank. You'll see steps down to the left. If you're taking the kids out for a walk, it would easily kill an hour.

It's actually a lovely spot, I go walking down there the whole time. Used to be a good place to find tadpoles when I was a kid, then it got all polluted but it has recently been restored. You can check out all the hard work done by volunteers to restore it here: http://kildare.iwai.ie/leixlipspa.html

In addition to the spa you can walk another 50 metres and see the aquaduct carrying the canal over the Rye Water.
