I am trading in a 00 Mondeo for a 03 focus. I have two keys for the mondeo (one remote one standard). I was thinking of holding onto the remote key and getting a new blade for it, getting it programmed to the new car.

The key on the focus looks the same as the mondeo. I know there is a PATS I and PATS II system would anyone know if both cars use the same fobs?

Also does anyone know if the fob can be programmed off one key or does it need 2.

if the mondeo is the mk3(2000-2007)it should be the same chip(blue)
the remote bit will work it's just the chip.
the older mondeo has a red chip.
you will need 2 different keys that will start the engine in order to program a 3rd key yourself, other wise its a trip to Ford.:)

EDIT - just noticed' MK2' mondeo sorry, wont work,
you can take the blue chip from this key & put it into the remote unit http://www.ebay.ie/itm/FORD-BLUE-BLANK-COMPATIBLE-TRANSPONDER-TIBBE-KEY-/190524782387?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Safety_Security&hash=item2c5c297733

Thanks for that. Enquired about a key from a well known Ford dealer in Cork. He game me the price and said it was an additional €50 for encoding.

I told I had two keys, so couldn't I code it myself. He s reply: "I wouldn't know anything about that, buts that's what the service dept (he is parts) charge for coding".

If he is parts dealer I would expect him to know you can encode these keys - its in the manual FFS. He was happily taking €50 for 1 minutes work.
