Since the new FG/Labour goverment took office 7 months ago ? Would our life really be any worse if cowen was still in charge? The answers is no, At least when cowen was in office he had to get out of bed every morning and work now we are paying the cùnt even more money to stay in bed all day. If that fool Enda Kenny wanted to show real leadership the first thing he would have done is announced he was taking a 50% pay cut. Btw their "jobs budget" was a total waste of time summer 11 was worse then summer 10 for tourism.

To be honest if you were expecting the new Government to come in and create a boom in 7 months, you were probably not paying much attention to the economic facts, or even their manifesto.

No i was not expecting an new boom but i was expecting Kenny and Co not to BS the irish people, Why did he say no new taxes or welfare cuts and then a few months later turn around and say that it will depend on what the Imf say? He knew well when he promised no new taxes or welfare cuts that the Imf are in charge.

I feel like someone more competent is in charge, i find that I worry less about what the people in charge are saying abroad.

A lot of the problem with the last government wasn't even the policies, it was the perception the world had of us with them in charge and the things they were saying such as denying the IMF were coming to town when they were already in town and having questions raised that made International news about whether or not they drunk or hungover in media interviews.

I feel like we have a government with more credibility, internationally.

But any robust analysis on their performance will have to wait until two years after taking office. Seven months is far too short a time.

An open-minded person may find this topic interesting, and would read further beyond this introductory link:

I won't hold my breath, however...

I think we'll have to wait until the first real budget before we can start passing judgement on the new Government.

I believe he said no increase in income tax.

I believe he said no increase in income tax.

    Correct.
Under a Fine Gael Government, tax increases will constitute at most one-third of our measures to reduce the deficit, with any tax increases focused on areas which have a minimal impact on jobs. We will not increase income taxes, the 12.5% rate of corporation tax or taxes on jobs (employers’ PRSI). We will, however, either eliminate or restrict all of the tax shelters and tax exemptions that allow the better off to avoid paying their fair share of taxes

Where are you getting your tourist numbers from?

I got this which is quoting the CSO which states a rise of 9.4% from 2010 figures for the first seven months of year.

I honestly can't wait for the next budget to roll around, seeing all those faces of shock when people honestly thought FG were any different to FF.

Yeah, well the country is running a deficit.

Actually they are worse. FG are our Tory party. And they are going to cripple the poor and the needing to look after their friends, even worse than FF did! At least FF would give you a bone every so often!

Did FG say that would not implement the EU/IMF programme?

I must have missed that.

Actually I don't think many actually think they are that different.

This is just the line of people of other parties that wish people wanted change. People didn't really want major change, that is why FG got in.

Absolute bull. Go vote FF again, sure they will throw you your bone, increase spending, increase social welfare, reduce tax so much that a huge portion of the working population actually pay nearly 0%, see where it gets us.

The fact you think FG are worse then FF says a lot.

In fairness there has been some restoration of our reputation to a degree.

Actually they are all about the same. Only FG are more right-wing so I have my hackles up more about them! I do not trust them or their politics one bit.

More right wing? In what way? What policies are right wing? Is it the socialisation of the banks? Medical cards? One of the best welfare systems in Europe?

Don't sound very right-wing to me. Our governments are pretty rotational in he political spectrum and it is hard to see any evidence or legislation that would make you believe they are right wing through and through.

How would that make things better for us?

Yeah, €190 per week plus rent allowance, fuel allowance, childrens allowance, medical card and a raft of other free stuff is really crippling the poor all right.

Its the people with jobs that are being crippled, not the ones that everyone thinks are poor.

At least since the new coalition moved in, there seems to be a plan as to where we were going and how we are going to go about it. With FF, they really seemed to be making it up as they went along, try to make short term fixes rather any long term objective.
