Since the cars are now assessed in nct centres are people being charged extra if their car has lots of extras like alloys, body kits etc??

Also a friend of mine brought his car and payment to nct centre last week for incspection and he now has to go to the revenue office next week, is this normal procedure?

VRT has always been charged on extras even before the NCT took it over. For VRT purposes extras are depreciated over a 4 year period from when the car was new. So extras for example on a 5 year old car, should not be included in calculating the VRT.

Also if the car being VRT'd is not on the NCT's database when being inspected then they have to refer it to Revenue to value it. They normally come back with a figure within 10 days.
