I just watched something on Nat Geog about the New York infestation, and I googled bed bugs Ireland and that came up:eek:

A nightmare, they hide in crevasses and cracks and at night they crawl all over you and feed from your blood.

Getting rid of them is a very expensive business, and one of the blighter's can lay up to 500 eggs in their short lifetime. So the exterminators don't offer a guarantee.

4leto; I'm a Pest Controller and this reminds me of a little thing I like to do:

Next time ye down the pub, or otherwise with a bunch of friends, tell them all about a situation in which ye were in a flea / bug infested environment. Use some anecdote.

Then, sit back and watch as they all surreptitiously start having a crafty scratch! :D Fuckin' works every time!

I would imagine that Cillit Bang would make sure your crevasses and cracks are clean at all times, and if it doesn't there's always a Brillo pad.
