i installed this free app this morning (voice recognition app) and have been playing with it....and it is surprisingly good, even with my thick sligo accent.

it probably wont be free for long when siri is out on the 4s's....but its a damn good alternate for non-iphone 4s users.

when combined with voice command (which is good for speaking a song you would like to play) it's pretty good

i spoke 4 texts this morning and it was perfect each time.

    thats all.

Really? I found it rubbish. It got some words sometimes.
I originally got an iPhone as I wanted a speech recognition app -speech to text. As I'm deaf, it would be so handy. Out of all of the free ones vlingo worked best and that wasn't saying much.

A fellow deaf friend told me about the free dragon dictate from the uk store. Thanks to my cousin I got that app. It's great. Works better on some people than others depending on how fast they talk etc but it gets better with use as the app learns. So the accuracy is perfect with about a third of the people I use it on

Vlingo works okay at best. For pure speech to text, I find Dragon Dictation to be more accurate. DD doesn't do voice "commands", just dictation.

Dragon Go is pretty good at interpreting commands like the now famous " do I need a raincoat today?" but it's not as good as Vlingo for things like "email John, message Hi there".

Dragon Go, Dragon Dictate and Vlingo combined would make a decent Siri alternative, but as it stands they each have seperate strengths that mean you have to use them separately depending on what you want to do.

And none of them can do things like set up alarms or calendar events like siri does.

Cheers OP it's a brilliant find! I've just used it to send a text to one of my contacts, I even dictated the content of the text.

just sent a voice text with dragon dictate - i tried it with vlingo but its a pay one so feck that... didnt know i could sent voice texts on dragon with my sms (so no extra paid features or needing the recipient to have the same app which seems to be the case with a lot of them)

They also updated it seconds after the keynote ended so it is much more powerful than hitherto.

I'm very impressed with this so far but haven't put it to the test in a noisy environment like the car. If it works in the car it will become one of my top 5 apps
