Car won't start at all?

Good morning, my house mate was on her way to the NCT this morning in her 01 Suzuki Ignis 1.4 (Automatic, spare your jeers!) and she came back into the house saying the car died on her, typical! I put the jump leads on and the car started. Then when she put her foot on the accelerator the car cut out and turned the ignition and nothing, not a dash light or anything, this happened twice.
She told me that she had similar problems before due to the radio draining power from the battery, which she got fixed. The odd thing I find is sometimes you get dash lights (faintly) and sometimes you get absolutely nothing. Is there a relay for the ignition that could be causing it, or is it a battery issue, or what? Any help would be great.

    Either
    • a short in the battery (duff cell) meaning new battery
    • or a bad earth, find and repair,
    • or other bad connection on the main leads from the battery.

I did notice a lot of corrosion around one of the battery terminals

That would be a good place to start.

Shame to have missed the NCT over something so simple, if that's what it turns out to be.

It is possible that the connector has snapped due to the corrosion explaining why it was working ok until this morning.

Let us know how you go.
