I assumed they were 4.5 -5.0 litres. anyway went to a garage today to get petrol for the mower and according to the pump it took 5.9 litres - 9.05 euros and there was still room in the can . never cost that before and i thought petro; was comming down ?

Petrol aint coming down. Your only allowed to put in 5L to allow for expansion of gases etc. You were lucky it wasnt a hot day or you could be BBQ material.

Yeah 5 litres is recommended, but I've often got near the 6 litres into one whilst brimming it, however with Diesel so it is safe out.
