Irish customs ~& USPS

i ahve two questions regarding USPS
firstly is it common that their tracking system is not updated and secondly are all USPS packages of high value checked by customs, how would i knoiw if mine was there or not ?

my package was suppsed to take few dsys but im concerned that not a thing has updated since it left

1) In my experience, it's not unusual, even with Express Mail, however....

2) Tracking number may say it's gone into Irish customs. Alternatively you may find out it's in customs if and when you get a letter from customs, telling you they want money from you.

So yes, if there's a high declared value usually they will take an interest in it.

Timewise, it's too early to worry. USPS Express can still easily take the bones of a week.

If you don't have the package, or a letter from customs by say, Wednesday,then maybe start to wonder a bit.

It was in San Fran on Thursday, it's far to early to expect it to be showing up here yet. You can use the same tracking number on anpost.ie to track it when it arrives here.

thanks for the replies, i would have thought that between now and then some sort of info or the item would have been scanned by now. the fact that it wasnt made me worry customs had it over the weekend, what route do these parcels take anyway? is it by airplanee thru the UK or germany im led to believe ?

Use priority flat rate next time, comes almost as fast and I've never had a USPS package attract VAT or duty over the years (could be different now) even on stuff that was obviously worth more than $28 or whatever the limit is...

The US Post Office here told me that they can only track packages until it has arrived in the country it was sent to (in my case Ireland).

They said they had no way of tracking delivery to the recipient.

As per Customs - it depends on what value is declared on the Customs form. Even if a low value is declared, Customs in Ireland may well have a look at it and determine a higher declarable value.

Would it be a waste of time calling Laois customs in the morning? Just to know if it's even here! I'm assuming it Would be scanned when it came in ! I'm worried because it's pretty high value product

Waste of time if it's not showing on the tracking system, as they won't know anything more about it.

an post system updated last night with this and i assumed it would be delivered today so obviosly it was held up.

If it only arrived in Portlaiose this morning then it wouldn't be delivered today. You'll see it arriving to your local delivery office, then it should state out for delivery, before it gets delivered. You're expecting it too quickly.
