The Tiida gets a bad rep on here....and im sure most of its haters have never been in it.
Well i had the fortune of having one as a rental recently.
To look at its blan to say the least but this would apeal to some people.
Inside again its bland but functual...every thing is withing easy reach.
1.6 engine is nippy enough ....and not bad on fuel.
Gears are easy to change...light and direct.
Steering is light and it has enough feel so you know whats going on...understeers slightly.
Clutch is light...brakes are very good, i was suprised.
Mine was a basic model (hatchback) it had E/W, C/L, A/C, Multi function wheel, Blue tooth stereo, easy folding rear seats ect ect.
So over all its not a bad car.
    So whats wrong with it???
In my opinion all thats wrong with it is its just sooooo undesireable.
Im into cars so i wouldnt buy one....but they have their uses.

    My 2c

They are a great car to drive. Because when you're driving it you can't see how hideous it is on the outside.

Yea i know......my point was dont judge a book by its cover...its not all bad.

Its amazing how many self proclaimed car nuts on here run cars down for no reason really.
Perfect example is how many run down the MX5 cos its a girly car....pathetic really.
I love cars and can see merit in all....even my 1980 Transit:D

MX-5 is a cool car, I dont think its girly! Then again I drive a del sol :pac:

A 1980's Transit is way cooler than a Tiida!

Its just nissans thing, if they aint making a sports car, GT-R, Skyline, 350Z etc they make the car utterly utterly boring. Micra, Note, Tiida - Totally bland euroboxes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,451 ✭✭✭Delancey

I drove a Note for a week recently and found it bland beyond belief , posted about it here and found a lot of Nissan fans - lots of people rave about the Skyline , etc but I think there was a consensus that their more ' mainstream ' output like Primeras , Notes , Tiidas , etc are just devoid of any ' character '.
Someone did make the valid point that the profits generated by their boring stuff probably is what makes it possible for Nissan to develop cars like the Skyline.

    Thats a good point.
Bland is the best word to describe it.
Out of my familey...Wife, sister, mother, father they have no interest in cars so really it comes down to the colour, price and equipment.....so they are all posible Tiida Buyers.....(But not if i have my way)

    Define boring.

If getting to your destination without any problems is boring, than that is fine by me. I had Note as a rental car.. 1.6 Auto Techna - it was perfect for the task.. even has a cubby on the dash with a USB that actually works with an iPOD!

I thought it was well thought out. Looks are too subjective for judging a car or brand.

...how many of you have sexy washing machines or bought a lawn mower for it's looks?

And the MX5 is the car Lotus should have made instead of the M100! Any engine, any spec they are a fun way to travel.

I was in a new'ish Micra the other day, it's doorcards were made of plastic, not even a bit of material on em', the seats felt like I was sitting on some sort of milk crate and it handled like a pig.

And it costs 3 or 4 months wages.. about the same as colour TV 30 years ago. What do you expect?

The thing about the likes of the tiida/versa/note etc is that they are perfectly good at being a car for the masses, enough comfort, value, equipment, power, handling for the average person who see's a car as a white good, something that serves a purpose no different to a washing machine or a dish washer.

However, unlike washing machines, for many people, cars can be alot more then a tool for getting from A to B and these are the people who would not even consider renting a tiida, never mind buying one!

Dysons are better than you think.. I know recycling places are full of them in the UK.. normal "bust".

In fact it's biggest problem is blockages. Easily fixed as they come to bits like LEGO. You can get most bit on Ebay, but I fond cleaning the parts normally resolves the issues.. belts you need to get from the UK.

...oh and the filters don't like ash. But I digress. (I have 3 - all saved from the tip)

I usually rent a car on price....dont really care what it is....its nice to try something you wouldnt buy yourself....hence my Tiida Thread.

My gripe with the Micra is not it's undoubted poor looks and blandness but rather with the fxxxing imbeciles who drive them.
Anyone else think Micra drivers = Shyte drivers ?

    Hmmmm...

It looks deliberately ugly the Tida. Almost as if Nissan are trying to make a point that it's not like their other cars.

No, obviously not, although many older people and learner drivers will be in small cars but in certain cases these people often do stupid things at low speed, as opposed to some people in big cars, who think they are a fantastic driver, who to stupit things at high speed.

Fair point , Micra drivers do stupid things with merciless regularity but rarely at a speed in excess of 50 m.p.h.

    Ha.
Not quite they get clogged but you can clean the filters no problem. I had a Non bag Hoover in my place a while ago and the I got a Dyson because it broke - the cleaner couldn't believe the amount of stuff the other POS.
Oh the Tiida well it gets a bad rap because no car enthusiast would touch it. In fairness its no worse than the god awful Almera that went before it!
It's odd though it says a lot about the Irish consumer given they didn't launch it anywhere else in Europe.
Nissan Ireland must have their research down to a tee.

Baltics, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine too apparently.

I don't mind them tbh.. it's a saloon car for people who want a saloon car for the same price as a small hatch. It's either that or buy a Fluence.

    It's bloody awful.
I had that for a week as a rental since my VOLVO was getting its ABS pump replaced.
Horrid. You need at least 4000rpm to get it going, very noisy inside, very unpleasant, uncomfortable, awful stereo, should I go on?

Did the ABS work on the Tiida?

There isn't a 3 door in the current line up?

It shares the boot design with a 7 series, so can't be that bad...

The Tiida made the Almera it replaced look daring. The Tiida is a rental car company's wet dream, cheap to buy or lease with a large fleet discount and plentiful supply.

The Tiida was designed for developing countries back in the early 2000s where cheap white goods transport was the priority. Never designed with European tastes in mind, a quick stop gap replacement for the Almera here which was replaced by the Qashqai elsewhere.
