The new season thus far, my take

This season has been rather weird for me, let me explain....my old favs, my shows i've watched season after season seem to have gone to hell!

I'm a CW junkie but this year all my faves have been either terrible (Gossip Girl/90210/Nikita) or very up and down (The Vampire Diaries), the new CW shows....Ringer is a dud, a total failure imo, it's interesting to note this is the FIRST CW show in 5 years i've seriously considered actually dropping!

The best of the bunch by far has been Secret Circle and Hart Of Dixie has Rachel Bilson....reason enough to watch. I've found this season pretty bad thus far, sadly the most interesting shows have already started to fall and be axed. By far my fave show was The Playboy Club...it was like a watered down cable quality show, but alas what it needed the most WAS the benefits of premium cable, ergo....nudity/sex/violence/swearing etc.

It felt too constrained by FCC and network regulations, it had soooo much potential but ultimately US audiences rejected it. Pan Am was also a very interesting and risky move, but there the show is all style over substance.

It looks stunning, but there is nothing to it, take out the bling and it's a rather bland sexy period soap, i think Revenge is great!...i really do! :D
It's the kinda guilty soapy sudser with enough bite and payback to hit the right spots.

It plays into the overall feeling in America, the rich screwing the poor...so you have this girl taking down these scumbags one at the time....you root for her, you girn and smile as these rich bas*ards get what they deserve.

But it's been a very average season at best, i've tried most everything save for shows i know 100% are not for me, Prime Suspect etc. There are some very interesting shows coming up i hope do well...it's nice to see networks take chances.

Once Upon A Time/Smash/Grimm and Awake offer the most promise now, but the trend is not looking good...these risk takers are flop or do average at best, it's a sad state that anything out of the holy trinty of cop/lawyer/doctor shows seem to fail.

I can't fathom it  - you see year after year the same shows pumped out, just with an added twist....truely different shows get axed :(
Once and again you see why cable rocks, they take chances and they give shows a fair crack...when network axes shows after 2/3 eps. you must ask how can anything truely suceed if never given a chance?

I'm greatful that i have several shows to watch that are from Canada and Australia, US network is in freefall and it's getting harder to find anything decent. God bless cable....i'd be lost with USA and ABC family :)

It's been a very patchy season, and me thinks alot more of these shows i watch will get cancelled. :(

Network TV is largely bloody mediocre to hideous.

This year, I've invested far less time in series until ratings stabilize and I get some more informed opinions on how their faring from other posters.

Out of the new series I've watched - I'm enjoying New Girl, Up All Night and Suburbgatory. Not much else to be honest.. not one of the dramas has grabbed me. Actually, Showtime's "Homeland" has the potential to be bloody fantastic.

Another year, another disappointing year of network TV to be honest!

I've watched very little new stuff.

    - 2 Broke Girls is pretty awful IMO.
    - New Girl seems ok, have only watched the pilot though.
    - Up All Night I'll be checking out soon.

Nothing else has given me a reason to watch yet. In returning series they're all much of a muchness really. Some have improved, IASIP being a prime example, some are staying around the same, HIMYM and Community being good examples. I'm just glad the summer is over tbh. :pac:

Yeah, don't get the love for this show at all.

Crude, lazy, clichéd characters, poor writing and devoid of any real talent.

I loved the pilot, but it took a real big ****ing dip since. I've dropped it.

Who did Whitney Cummings get dirt on to get two bad sitcoms greenlit at the same time on two different networks?

Don't get me started on that devoid of talent hack..

.. American's lap her sh*t up for some reason!

    She's dire!

It's depressing how for females in comedy the less talented they are the more success they have.

I've yet to find a new network or cable show that I have any interest in watching. "Boss" and American Horror Story are a possibility out of all of them. There's less and less that I want to watch on tv these days. :D

Not always the case. Ask Tina Fey...

I've given up on watching pilots because more often than not, they'll just end up being cancelled. What's the point of investing in a show if it's just going to be cancelled? That's probably why people aren't warming to new shows and ratings tank. A cable show is almost always guaranteed to make it into its second season and beyond. Networks need to get behind this kind of thinking and give shows more of a chance to last, and not depend on ratings for every episode.

Tina's the exception that proves the rule though! ;)

some shows are fairly obvious when you do a little research, the playboy club and pan-am are set up for failure,

TPC especially, people have certain expectations when they hear of these shows, some tune in for the boobies and then leave when theres none, and others dont wanna watch porn, so you have 2 big markets not watching your show, so cancelled,

put them on cable theyll draw in 1.5-2 million viewers and run for 5 season with 12 eps a season,

ive picked up persons of interest, rather procedural but i like it, it has some kind of a storyline running in it, with the
flashbacks and the cop trying to track him,

i like 2 broke girls, new girl and subugatory, there not great by any means but theyll have the best chance of doing something, no show is truely great from the start as your only being inroduced to the caracters, i think 2 broke girls needs another girl and maybe one or two fellas outside of work to be more recurring to keep people coming back, the other 2 seem to be set-up a bit better,

terra nove seems ok, as most people i think agree its fairly family friendly stuff from spielberg,

watched one episode of charlies angels and knew with 10 mins its gonna fail, it was just a little to nicey nice, with some basic action thrown in,

didnt watch ringer, heart of dixie, cause i have a nice set of balls between my legs, lol, only joking i have a set limit of drama angst that is well met by greys anatomy,

returning shows, noting has blown me away, most seemed to have returned as they left off,

Months later I'm still furious over Chicago Code, I need to get over that.

    Onto this season
Pilot of Homeland was very promising, there is a show with a future

I'm looking forward to Boss also and I understand it's already been renewed before the first season even aired.

I think the new Spartacus returns next February so a good bit off but looking forward to that

Suits and Neccesary Roughness satisfied me over the summer

Have to disagree guys, 2 broke girls is one of my faves ( with new girl)

Giving up on pan am though, it's too female centric, & terra nova because it's crap.

We need a new male centric drama. Entourage & Rescue me have left a massive hole in the schedule

New season has been a bit disappointing for me. My favourite by a long shot was The Playboy Club so of course that was the kiss of death for it. Also enjoying Suburgatory and New Girl. 2 Broke girls will probably fall into the "will watch it if it happens to be on tv but won't seek it out" category, Kat Dennings is really the only thing that keeps me watching at this stage.
I saw a few episodes of Up All Night and thought it was good but Maya Rudolph's character is dragging the show down.
I seem to be in the minority that started out disliking Pan-Am but think it's improving.

    The new season thus far....

Really liking the new C4 series, Fresh Meat. Its still early days for the show but it does have potential. Jack Whitehall's character has had some very funny lines.

Spooks, series 10, the final series. While not near as good as earlier series its still much better the most shows on TV imo. But a show that's definitely running out of ideas. The time is right now to end it, hopfully the can pull something big out of the bag for the finale.

Downtown Abbey. Not the type of programme I'd usually watch so Im surprised at how much I actually liked it and a show I'd recommended to anyone. ITV seem to have gone all out producing it, no expenses spared.

Fresh Meat is a good new comedy also new girl with the lovely Zooey Deschanel
Ringer, The Secret Circle and Revenge are all so so
I'm really liking The Fades on BBC3
American Horror Story just feels like a haunted house film stretched out over a season
