Are you a lone wolf or a sheep?

Well? I can count the number of "friends" I have associated with throughout my life on one hand. You can't really trust other people 100%, so this works for me well. More time to work.

    What about yourself?

How come "lone wolves" always use a cool sounding name like "lone wolf" instead of, say, "loser"?

I always try to do my own thing. Life's too short to let others influence the directions you take.

Because they are just labels. I don't care what label you set your social gun to, it's all just a bunch of letters arranged in a specific way. No big deal.

loner mostly, have 4 close friends, good few work aquaintances and the usual facebook people have met but dont have a major connection to. Live by myself but only since recently and love it, I definintely dont let being on my own prevent me from doing things, if I want to see a movie, I'll go on my own, or a gig, plenty of people to get chatting to.

I know a few people who wont sit in a cafe by themselves or walk into a busy pub without someone coming out to meet them so they dont look "like sad losers" as if a bunch of randomer strangers give two fcuks someone walks into a pub by themselves ffs.

Its a very Irish thing that alone=loser, I enjoy my friends company a lot but I'm not afraid of being by myself, definitely need that time.

Pighead's the ulimate lone wolf. Latest fads and fashions are ignored and derided by this kid. Pighead steadfastly refuses to follow the herd.

It's somehow reassuring to see that the animal metaphors for self-absorbed musing on one's place in the social firmament haven't changed since I myself was an irritating teenager.

In the animal kingdom, lone wolves are typically older wolves driven from the pack, perhaps by an alpha male, or young adults in search of new territory
    That's sad!

I think people who prefer their own company should choose a new animal, because it seems like wolves don't become lone by choice.

What about leopards, or polar bears?

I suppose i am a lone wolf ? .Husband is my best friend about 3 female friends i could rely on , no scrap that about two and my sister and a few aquaintences. See, everyone is obsessed with how many friends they have , girls in work are always having 10 friends over for dinner or going on a girls weekend with 20 .They all try to out do each other with their popularity and sometimes when i am feeling low it can bug me but other times i am like shut up, out of that gang of twenty how many are you not talking about behind their backs and how many could you really rely on.

    Agree totally.
Only thing i'd add to this is that this quality in the opposite sex is very attractive.

I have my brothers and sisters, my husband, and two real friends all of whom I love dearly and trust completely.

I have lots of people whom I like and with whom I get on very well, but I wouldn't call them real friends.

If any of the people in either group needed help of any kind and I was in a position to help, I would do so.

However, if I needed help with something serious, it's only the people in the first group that I'd ask.

I'd call myself a pack animal, rather than a lone wolf or a herd (or flock) animal.

Got a great bunch of friends at home but at uni I would turn into a bit of an antisocial fecker if I didn't really make the effort not to.

So many people say that those you meet at university will be the friends you make for life but I still feel so much closer to friends from school who I have known since being 11. Talking to them I think they feel pretty much the same.

Everybody at uni is very engaging and actually very interesting but just so so different. I remember on my corridor in halls I was one of 3 who hadn't been privately educated. Two out of 30 had been to Eton! I prefer a chat about soccer over 6 pints and then a kebab than a chat about international politics (interesting no doubt but intellectual thinking should be left for lectures and seminars) over one or two pints before people want to "turn in" at half 10.

Paid the price for going to a "better" uni in that respect.

Lone wolf, I like my own company. I see friends infrequently, at least we'd have something to talk about when we meet, I'm not into living in each others pockets shit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,349 ✭✭✭✭starlit

I am a mixture of both really. Right in the middle I suppose. Used to be more of a lone wolf than a sheep when younger but have become more like a sheep than a lone wolf as I got older but now a day's its very much a mixture so very much in the middle between the two! Depends.
