I was about to buy an iPod Touch 64GB and saw that Apple are selling an iPad 1G 64GB model in their refurbished store for pretty much the same price. Now I don't know what to get.

The Touch is €399 and the iPad is €469.

I'm going traveling in a week for a year and was getting a touch so I could store music and have access to the internet when I was on a wifi network. I already have a Kindle for books and an Archos for movies. Which one should I get?

I just came across a 64GB 3G for €460 on Adverts. Would it fit 3G sim cards from anywhere in the world? Most importantly, would it fit a New Zealand sim card?

If Using it in mobile locations is a priority the touch might better, but if you are looking for proper internet then the iPad is the much superior device , and for music if your looking for a mp3 player then touch is better otherwise the iPad is once again better. If it was me id choose the iPad if I had to bring one device

My g/f wants me to get the Touch (she says the iPad is too big and that I already have a Kindle and Archos). Dammit I hate it when they're right. We'll be traveling through India, thailand, Indonesia, NZ and she says it'll get robbed.

True true ha! She may be right though. It is a pretty sweet deal though, 64GB + 3G for €450. I'll mull it over throughout the day.

A friend has a usb key with about 500 books on it. I used it to put some books on my Kindle but would the same work on an iPad?

Yes, you can load books on it with the Kindle app. But bear in mind, LCD screens are not ideal for reading books for long periods of time.
