    hi there
We want to replace our open fire with a solid fuel stove.
We need one to heat about 12 rads and also to heat the hot water.
Our main fuel is turf so would like advice on which make would suit us the best.
We would prefer one with a large window to the front so you still get the feel of the open fire
    any advice would be great
    thanks sma

user_offline.gifreport.gif post_thanks.gif we are thinking of putting in a solid fuel stove instead of our open fire. Can anyone reccomend a good stove. We want it to heat about 12 rads and hot water too. Is there any stove that has a large glass window in the front, so it looks as cosy as an open fire.

We got a stanley reginald about 2 months ago and we are delighted with it. I think it heats up to 12 rads and your hot water. It heats the hot water and rads super quick as a lot of the heat is sent to the back boiler. It is really economical to run also. 1 good fire in it every evening and thats it. Will cost about 1800 euro but well worth it imo.

    Hi sky.boy,

Could you give an update on how the Stanley Reginald is performing please ?

I'm trying to decide between it and a Charnwood Country 16B, but think the Stanley (4kw to the room) would be more suited (less roasting) for our room size (17.5 * 14.5 * 7.75). I have 14 rads, but 4 of these are half-size, so the boiler output should be enough to heat them.

Do you notice a significant difference in your house (e.g. less draughts, more constant temperature etc etc) ?

How much fuel / what type of fuel are you using ?

What size room do you have it in ?

    Any issues with it ?

    Many thanks.

    Hi luckyseven,

The stanley reginald is the best stove out there imo. A friend of mine had an old stanley range cooker and it packed in. He lives in an old house where the insulation wouldn't be great. He was heating about 11 rads and they would only get luke warm and the last 2 or 3 wouldn't heat at all. He bought the stanley reginald and the diffirence is unbelieveable. My house has been recently refurbished and is insulated to a high standard. The room where the stove is 12x26x8. we burn turf mostly and some blocks of timber. The fuel consumption is very good. For example we were renting a house a couple of years ago and it had a hercules stove in the kitchen. 2 Bags of turf a night it would use between 6 and 10pm. The stanley reginald uses about 6 bags of turf a week and thats running it all weekend as well. The only issue with it is the size of the ash tray. Trust me you wont be disappointed with it. Money very well spent. Let me know how you get on?
