Help with laptop gpu

    Hey guys,

I got a new dell laptop today.
I would call dell but the support line is closed for the day.

There is a nvidia GT 555m graphics card and also integrated intel HD graphics on the laptop.

Both show as enabled in device manager.
Ive tried to play a few games and they run awful as the intel card seems to be the one in use and not the nvidia card.

Ive tried to disable the intel card in device manager but then the nvidia card still doesnt do anything and the laptop runs as if not gpu is installed.

Has anyone any ideas how i can get the nvidia card to work and not the crappy intel one?

Engadget has a pretty clear overview of the technology used in your laptop. Rather than just quoting them I just put the link above and you should have a read and then ask any additional questions. You absolutely shouldn't be disabling the intel gpu though as it should be automatic, so make sure you undo that first.

One bit of advice though is if you are running a newer game, update your drivers from nvidia as the game mightn't be automatically detected otherwise.

    Cheers for that dude.
Ends up the game wasn't auto detected so it was still using the intel graphics.

It still doesn't auto switch for some games but I enabled the right click gpu option to manually select it.

Tis a nifty feature even though it required some tweaking.
