Can you change your course

    Hi,
    I know someone that is doing a course that involves a math section. She just cant do the math and is afraid shes going to fail. She wants to change to a similar course without all of the math.

    The course she wants to change into has less points that the one shes in now. Is it possible to change courses or can you only change modules if you are doing a general arts degree.

    Tell her to go to the Maths Support Centre! Can she drop maths after first year or does it continue on through the course?

    She went to it. She didn't find it very helpful. She was great at it in the leaving cert but now she hasn't got a clue what there talking about.
    She doesn't do Maths at all after first year.
    But 2nd year is too late 'cos she'd just fail it in first year and have to repeat.

    If she has enough points for to the course she wants to change to, there should be no problem, unless there's a limit on the number of people who can do it or something. Tell her to go over to the student records office in humanity house (where you register/get your grant) and they'll sort it out. She should do it ASAP though, because I think the last day for changing subjects and stuff in first year is Friday coming.

    If she can't change course then try not to worry. It's a big jump for all subjects from LC to university level, and it seems wrong to say that she's definitely going to fail. There are a lot of supports available for people struggling with maths. Do try the MSC again, you might have a bad experience once but it's still a great resource. And if you ever have any problems at all or find it unhelpful, please do comment and give feedback so they know how to help you!
