Step 1 : Purchase a smartphone data plan.

    9.99 on O2 Prepay
Free on three Prepay [if topup €20 a month]
Usually included in most billpay plans, just double check.

If you don't have a data plan, you might as well re-mortgage your house. Android phones SUCK up data allowance.

First things first, do not go anywhere near 02 for data if you can get coverage in your area from 3.

Go with 3 if you can at all, I have unlimited data and use the phone in the way it's meant to be used with absolutely no worries about big bills. Have used about 3GB so far this month because I was using it as a wifi hotspot for my laptop and downloading quite a lot.

On the question of SD cards -- will a SDHC card work? I'm buying a 32GB one from eBay and the one I was looking at was a HC. Others were a TF. All micro SD.

Tad confused as SD is <2GB but the website says memory can take up to 32GB

Yes, micro SDHC. Well, in my SGS anyway. I doubt it's any different for the SGS2.

Mine is a Class 4 16GB Micro SDHC but the internal SD Card is more than enough unless you want to pack in a lot of music and videos.

I always thought it was faster to have the SD card anyway.

I'm getting 30 hours out of mine now with reasonable amount of use because :
I have a 2/3G widget and have data switched off at all times when not using
Always sync and background data turned off
    Screen turned down to minimum
Lots of bloat apps frozen (am rooted though)
    Screen @ 30 secs dim
    Airplane mode @ night
Turn off wireless when out of range
No weather widget, I can see what it's like outside myself
    Dark static wallpaper
    Haptic keys turned off
    Gps always off till needed
