What the hell is going on at google towers? They have taken the best web search engine and are making poop of it, they mess up images, dropped real time news from twitter, are desperately trying to track your every move and "integrate", in their latest wheeze they have moved the page cache/similar feature to the top of the right hand preview column. And that right hand preview column sucks away! *loading*

    STOP IT!

I was only thinking about this the other day as if I've nothing else to do.. Does anyone still use yahoo or msn anymore?

Do you know what would be a nice ironic touch if you were posting this from google chrome.

    Iron is where it's at.

    and you believed them?
Google will sell your soul in a heartbeat...actually they already do, how do you think they make their money?

I always had to laugh at the android fanboys who claimed Apple/Microsoft were Satan's spawn and keeping you in a locked in environment while they supported a company that tracks all your emails sent within gmail and offers your ads based on this and sells your profile data to various companies allowing them to target you for advertisments.

They just keep giving us great things for free.

But in return we give up part of our anonymity, seeing I have nothing to hide, I think that is a good deal.

This script includes a nice little option to "disable google tracking my results".

Like a lot of things that are 'common knowledge' it's stupid and wrong.

Protip kids, all advertising is targeted - and seeing as I can't reasonably expect a free product on the scale of Google to be ad-free I'd rather have advertising that is for things I might conceivably want rather than something I don't.

The image search is a bad copy of how the results have been displayed for ages by bing

If you want to talk about loss of anonymity look at all those organisations that now set up a facebook page in lieu of a proper website.

I'm no more a "product" for using Google than I am a "product" for watching ads on TV.

"Target Market" is the correct term, but I guess it's not as melodramatic.

The stuff I search for often confuses the hell out of targeted adverts, nothing advertised is of any interest to me at all. :pac:

I think theres a huge opportunity for another search engine to grab a share of the market from people looking to ditch google. I thought Bing would do it but Microsoft arnt known for being the most innovative bunch.

Why hasnt Apple tackled it ? With a slogan like "We wont track your every move!" it would probably knock google for six within a month of release.

PS. An online forum that doesnt give me 503 errors every single time I try to post might do well too

    Yes you do

    Well then
Now that it is out in the open I am not worried.

Besides our anonymity has been chipped away for a while now, you would be amazed at what Tesco know about you.

This is it, big brother is here, with our computers our smartphones, facial recognition CC cameras (coming soon) ETC.

And it wasn't put in position by an autocrat, no, we put it there and we even paid for it. George Orwell never seen that coming.

aside from google things often get changed for the worse. But that's not the issue where the main thing is they 'completed' their apparently mandatory update regardless, just for that stay hip sensation or some shìt and you're essentially forced to use a beta til the fix. if a fix.. then they do it again :/

    Hold on a second....

Why do you all (anti-googlers) care so much that they're tracking you? It hasn't affected my use of the Internet, in fact it's probably made it somewhat better. Instead of getting ads for **** i'd never be interested in, i get ads for things i might actually find useful.

And if you think MS don't do the same with Bing then there's really something wrong with your logic.

Ermm because there'd be no money in giving a free search engine to people that they can't effectively advertise to?

As a 'user' on the Internets to Google, you are someone who is either being sold something or someone who is buying something.

There are loads of search engines, but they are all **** (including Bing) when compared to Google.

Yahoo is good, but still, I would rather Google.

The point is "Don't be Evil". They never said "Do no evil". Evil is very subjective as well.

Personally I'm very disappointed with their POS mobile search portal. Switched to Bing long ago (not by choice either). Bing search results almost 100% match Googles. There is very little difference in who is better.

Its one of those things, Google is now the most seen and recognised brand in the world, they don't really have to do much to stay on top and there is nothing more they can do to a search engine to boost or grow their business.

So they have to expand into other markets. So they are going for Facebook's market share and the other emerging IT market is smartphones, its safe to say everyone will have a smart phone 2 to 5 years from now.

But Apple are only as good as their last product, one bad move from them and they suffer badly, google are going for a bigger business spread.

I was actually waiting to see what the iphone 5 was like, but not to impressed so I am going for the samsung galaxy2, (my quit smoking treat):)
