Life insurance - written in trust

I read about a case in the UK recently where a life assured died and the insurer refused to pay out until grant of probate. According to the article (Which? Magazine October 2011), if the policy had been written in trust it could be paid out without needing to wait for probate.

Would this be the situation in Ireland? Of so, is it difficult to have an existing policy written in trust?

    Thanks in advance
