I want to bid on an item where the only delivery option offered is to the UK.
I ask the seller if he can deliver to the Rep Of Ireland and he says yes as long as i cover the extra delivery costs.
Does he have to add Rep Of Ireland as a delivery option or make some other alteration so that my bid is not rejected by ebay?

Yes the seller has to add Rep Of Ireland to the list of countries he delivers to.

Another option is, if you know anyone living in the U.K you could add their address onto your eBay account and select their address when you want to bid.

Then when you want to pay, just select the Irish address as your shipping address, your seller will need to invoice you though.

As an inexperienced ebay user myself,i don't know how straightforward it is to include other postage destinations.

This is a message i sent to the seller and the response :

    Q. Would you be willing to deliver to the Republic of Ireland? If so could you please include Republic of Ireland as a postage option with the delivery charge otherwise my bid will be rejected.

    Seller response
I am quite happy to send the item to the Republic of Ireland. I have looked but I can't see any obvious way to amend the ship
to destination on the listing. Whilst not an experienced eBay seller I have sold a couple of items to overseas buyers before
and they were not prevented from bidding so hopefully my lack of eBay skill will not prevent you in participating.

I haven't made a bid yet.I've sent him another message requesting the delivery costs.
I'm cautious of bidding when he hasn't officially listed a delivery charge.
He can charge whatever he wants if he hasn't yeah?

What does he have to do to include Rep of Ireland as a delivery option?

Never bid without getting the postage price from them beforehand. I ask sellers for prices to Ireland all the time, never once have they altered the auction to refect the price they quoted me, and never once have I had them try anything dodgy, like increase it.

If they did I would simply not pay and report them.

Once or twice my bids were rejected automatically, I found a way around it was to change my country in settings to UK temporarily, all the rest was the same. I emailed the seller before doing it so they knew what was up. Then when paying via paypal I added a reminder again to change the UK to Ireland, and sent the full exact address again.

Sometimes at checkout it lets you add your own postage price, this is what happened to me the last few times. Another few times I paid the UK or US postage costs, and then sent a separate paypal amount to the seller with the remaining money I owed him say he quoted $40 postage, and it was $15 within the US, I then sent on $25 extra right away with a message.

Don't forget that the seller gets hit with extra paypal fees if sending more than one payment. It might be small although some sellers might get the hump with buyers doing that.
