If it's not docked it will cause problems regardless of what any vet says. The tail will start to bleed and will get very sore, one of the lads on here had the same problem. Not sure how he got it sorted in the end.

I don't want to cause the Dog any problems as long as the Dogs tail dosen't get caught that's ok with me I don't mind it been long I would not give a hoot's if someone said to me the tail should be shorter it's not there Dog and it's not going to make him run any faster minus a bit of tail it stays long I just don't want him hurt he will be my Dog short tail or long tail, thanks for the help anyway,

I worked a pair of springers together for years, one docked the other not. Heavy cover, ditches and woodland. Never had a problem with the undocked one.

Seen a few horror-stories/pics on an english forum.
They aren't allowed to dock there.

I suppose it all depends on the dog and the type of cover he has to hunt...

If I had a springer I would want him docked, but ideally you'd be doing it when they are a few days old- at this stage your maybe as well leaving him (as you've already decided)

    http://www.cdb.org/letters.htm

Read it for yourself, i have seen some nasty injuries to undocked dogs.If your dog hasnt been docked and does not pick up an injury he would be "LUCKY AS A DOG WITH 2 MICKEYS"

But everybody to their own if people don't want to get it done or think it is cruel then that's their opinion.

one of my bitches is slightly docked. shes from field trial stock and they like to keep the tails long. no problems with her. then a mate of mine who has a dog the same and it bleeds a lot. different dogs i suppose effect differently. i prefer docked myself though.

There's a good bit of mythology about docking. You only hear about the injuries. It's a Victorian fashion statement more than anything IMHO, and in countries where it's banned gundogs do just fine.

My dog often flitters his ears in heavy cover, but I would never think of cutting them off.

Very good Quote LostCovey as I said before the Dog keeps his tail my only worry was if he got it caught and damaged I end up going to the Vet off come's a small section of tail dog wears a cone on his head tail repairs out hunting again tail gets infected another piece off his tail and the saga continues I think we will leave it at that and hope she turns out a good Hunting Dog and thanks for your comment.

Mine is docked and runs like the wind; I sometimes see her needing it on fast tight turns; she dosnt have the rudder balance and can roll: no doubt will end up breaking sthing some day :c
