Secondary Teaching?

I'm a leaving cert student, looking to do secondary school teaching once I finish next year. The two subjects I hope to teach, if possible, are Geography and Biology.
It seems impossible, to find a course that enables you to teach both subjects, apart from an arts degree. I had spoken to my principal and he said that when hiring, they rather see a teacher with a science degree than an Arts degree, if you wish to teach science.
My career guidance teacher is MIA at the moment, so I haven't had a chance to ask her, but basically, I want to know if there is any course out there that allows you to teach BOTH geography AND biology.

unfortunately no there isn't you would have to do 2 separate courses. I wanted to do French and science (Bio and chem) but because one is a science and teh other an arts, they never cross paths

Science in UCD? Geology and Biology would be close enough. You would major in one but will have studied the other for 2 years (and maybe as your minor units in 3rd year). See http://www.ucd.ie/science/courses/faqs.html or give them a ring.

Also Biology and Environmental Science would be quite close to what you want: http://www.ucd.ie/bioenvsci/undergraduatestudents/

Double and triple check (and get in writing if you can) that the Teaching Council recognise the degree for teaching.
