I believe the plan is to build a new hangar out near the tower.

I see that Etihad are looking to recruit 100 new staff out of Ireland.

    what made you believe that?

The rumour mill in the airport, nothing more.
It has a tendency to be correct a lot of the time.

Having a mx base this side of Europe will be worth it in the long run, sure they have money coming out of their bum holes.

Hold it a sec, are we not jumping the gun here a little?? We are talking about an airline that runs a daily flight to Abu Dhabi (twice daily 3-4 times a week) building their own hangar at Dublin airport?? Whatever for one must ask, they have a line maintenance team which consists of 3 engineers & 2 mechanics, hardly a basis for buliding a hangar.

What are they going to do with this hangar? Leave it lying around until they have an AOG aircraft in Dublin? Much easier to just rent hangar 6 from aer lingus when needs be.

We aren't jumping the gun at all....Etihad announced this on their website.
It's fact... Good idea or not.

Where have I suggested a website saying they are building a hangar?
You said that. I was pointing out that "we" as in posters on boards.ie are not jumping the gun as you suggested. It was announced last year in many media outlets and by Etihad that they would be acquiring hangar space in Dublin which would eventually be rented out to other carriers.

Any other comments I made are rumours, as I clearly stated.

    FYI it's mentioned here

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dublin_Airport (maintenance facilities)

    And discussed briefly here..

People do be putting info on that wikipedia page without any solid sources at all so I'd take what they say with a pinch of salt...

    Agreed.

"If it's on the Internet then it must be true" may have applied here :)

I have heard talk (I know I know!) that Etihad may commence operating a US route out of Dublin, I wonder if they would require any Dublin based Cabin Crew :D

    No.

While they have recruited for Irish crew no reason to have DUB based crew.

In addition I am not sure if EY have rights to operate EU-USA?

If Etihad are serious about investing in Aer Lingus, then I can't see the benefit of them buildling a brand new hanger in Dublin...

Why do you have such an issue with this thread?
Even if it all ends up as pure fantasy, what's the problem?

Every second post in every other thread on boards.ie envolves speculation, should we shut boards down then?

<snip> Abuse wont be tollorated here.

No, they can't without Fifth Freedom rights.

They can fly from Abu Dhabi to the USA, however that does not give them the rights to operate flights from the EI to the USA. As it currently stands they could operate Abu Dhabi-Dublin-New York, but they would not be allowed to pick up any passengers in Dublin. This would be allowed as all pax originated in the carriers home base.

Access rights for aviation rely on agreements between each country.

What ever came of this? Rumour or genuine? I'm guessing the former.

Apologies for the bump as well.

Apart from the codeshare and interline agreements things are naturally quiet until such time that FR is off the share register. After that its anyones guess. Loads of rumours have been doing the rounds at work over the past year. Many from former colleagues that are out in the sandpit who are supposedly in the know. Time will tell.
