It's great to finally see Mike Murphy back on our screens again. Tonight, Mike's guest is comedian, Tommy Tiernan. This is a nice replacement for "Ryan Confidential" which once occupied the same Thursday evening slot.

One of our all-time most popular broadcasters returns to our screens this Autumn for a series of remarkable interviews. The Big Interview with Mike Murphy starts on RTÉ One, Thursday 6th October, 10:15pm.
Over six programmes the legendary presenter will talk to a guest of his choice, each of whom has made a significant impact on Ireland today and has reached the very pinnacle of their profession.
Tonight's programme features Tommy Tiernan and Mike's guests in this series include Bertie Ahern, Moya Doherty, Marian Finucane, Barry McGuigan and David McWilliams.

Expect insight and opinion from six remarkable people in conversation with one of the best broadcasters this country has ever produced

Could RTE not do the decent thing by finally putting the likes of Mike Murphy and Gay Byrne out to grass and try to find some decent new talent? Why do they keep resurrecting these guys and giving them series like this every couple of years?

Gaybo's last two programmes for RTE - "The Meaning of Life" and "For One Night Only" had excellent viewership figures, so it would appear he is still very much in demand.

Because all the new talent they have brought in the last lock of years have a great lack of just that, Mike Murphy and Gay Byrne have a great amount of charisma and good interview style, best men suited for the role.

I find him a bit distasteful to be honest.

Although he can be very funny when we wants to be.

But anyway, Good to see Mike back centre stage. He has this gig because he is a very good interviewer, and for no other reason.

Tommy is a gentleman in real life, I've been lucky enough to chat to him on a few occasions.

Someone said to me once, 'Never namedrop, Skid, It's not classy'

It may have been my old friend Dave Letterman, now that I think of it :)

according to some forums both are supposed to have fallen victim to the recent recession

Depression seems to be very common in Comedians :(

Mike Murphy was very blunt on the Late Late Show on Friday, that he only did this show because he needs the money.

I am getting seasick from the camera movements.

Tommy is on good form, though.

    Murphy's laughter seems soooo insincere.

    Tubbers replacement no doubt.

thats because comedians think about things alot and often show people how absurd things are , over thinking is the scariest thing in the world

What do you mean by this? That you think Tubridy will get axed from one of his shows and that Mike Murphy will be given it?

is it not nice to have an ex employer that can set one up with a nice little earner when ones gambling leads to penury, are not himself and gabo so lucky.

This was the discussion at teabreak this morning and, without exception, it was felt that RTE should be chastised for bringing back the likes of Murphy and Byrne just because they need a few bob. What a way to spend our licence fees. There are plenty of young people looking to get into the business. Encourage them and not bring back has-beens and guys so full of themselves - "Stars" who need the cash! A disgrace.

Pretty much, yes. I reckon that Tubridy will leave the Late Late and Mike Murphy will be his replacement.

I'd happily run naked through the streets in celebration of that tosser being chucked off The Late Late Show but I don't see it happening anytime soon. Hopefully I'm wrong. Mike Murphy as replacement though? How old is he like!

this was really good, mike was simply being a interested human interviewer, not stiff (an achievement from RTE in itself), and it lead to a enjoyable conversation, lovely aesthetic feel to it as well

A pretty simple idea done well like this is the way to go RTE and its worth more than all the Celebrity Banisteoirs, All Ireland TS, and Masterchef put together

I understand Theres probably a 100 budding mike murphies with communications degrees deserve to get a gig like this, but he was very good

never liked Mike Murphy,When he was on winning streak he questioned the contestents that much he almost asked what they had for dinner,Now he's grilling more people!

Haven't seen it but did see the promo piece on the Late Late where he rang rings around Tubs... though who wouldn't! To be honest he came across as a straight up kind of guy who put his hands up and said he was broke after some property deals went bad and came back to TV because he needed the money. You can't blame him. If I leave my current job to go do something else and end up broke, I'd be happy to come back to my old employer to keep the bills paid if such an opportunity was available.

In any case, seeing Mike Murphy back made me realise that, love them or hate them, the old RTE crowd had bundles of ability and talent and were great at their jobs. Tubridy faded in comparison to Mike. Infact, I can remember the interview because of Mike but otherwise, Socky might as well have been asking the questions. Infact, socky might have been better because Mike took over the interview and came out with better stuff than we'd have ever gotten had he sat there meekly letting Tubs ask the questions.

I'd rather see Mike Murphy getting my licence fee shillings instead of that useless muppet Tubs.
