DRACONID METEOR OUTBURST: Forecasters say Earth is heading for a stream of dust from Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner. A close encounter with the comet's fragile debris could spark a meteor outburst over parts of our planet on October 8th.

I know with the Moon it wont be great but considering im in work from tomorrow would anyone suggest going out tonight?

One of the lads over on the weather forum siad he saw a good few last night!

The expected meteoroid stream is not that wide, and will (if it is as predicted) only give an increased meteor rate from the standard average of 1 every 10 or so minutes under perfect dark skies, to a average of 1 every 10 seconds or so under perfect conditions for a period between about 18.00 to 22.00 Irish time (with an error of a few hours either side) on the evening of the 8th. Given the moon, and the altitude of the radiant, it'll give a meteor every (average) 30sec to a minute, maybe 1 every 3 minutes or so. Still good compared to the average background and worth a look see if the skies are at all clear on Saturday night.

You won't see much tonight, maybe 1 or two meteors from the Draconids in a half-hour or so if the conditions are good.

a meteor bit breaks roof in France, South of Paris (and found).

Don't know how sensationalised this particular article is, am French and if I see something a bit more scientific will try and post it.

edit : found a video, it's in French but you will see images of the meteorite, the geologist explains how if you cut them in half you see bits of metal interspersed, and that they are magnetic. The lady is saying she feels it's magical, especially when your name is Comette, to get such a present falling off the sky onto your house, and that she is going to keep it not sell it. Article not sensationalised after all !
