I need to be able to manually edit the <head> section on a Magento site, but can't find the relevant file to edit. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

I'm having a problem with IE not displaying the Favicon and need to tinker with the code...

Thanks for the reply Damien, but no joy with those links unfortunately. i've done a lot of trawling to no avail so far.

The problem is I have the favicon displaying correctly in Firefox, Safari but not in IE. The metatags are:

<link rel="icon" href="http://www.domain.com/media/favicon/default/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.domain.com/media/favicon/default/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

and there is a suggestion to reverse the order of these to make it work, hence I need to edit the code directly.

Have a look in the head.phtml file.

Path : magento > app > design > frontend > base > default > template > page > html > head.phtml

Thanks Talisman, that's the file. I couldn't find it anywhere!

So I have been able to edit the file, but it hasn't helped my favicon issue. Anyway at least I know where to go now.

Off now to do more trawling...

Is the Favicon definitely a .ICO format file and not another image format with the extension changed? Also make sure you clear the browser cache before re-testing.

Yep, proper format and cache cleared and in the correct location. I'll keep trying

Thanks for the offer, but this is a site for a client and I would prefer not to have a reference to it on a forum where I am looking for help

I haven't had a chance to investigate this further, but I know there are a fair few options to try to work around this, so I don't think I will be stuck.

Doesn't Magento have it's own server side cache that can be problematic if you forget to clear it after making changes?

I never had to work directly on it but lads in the office used to mention it causing problems.
