HELP! Bought ASUS laptop how to get refund??

    Hello,

    Bought an ASUS UL30A about a month ago (saveonlaptops), mainly for web surfing. With any more than two windows open it grinds along slower than the 6 year old dell I just dumped.

    Have read that the wireless card only has one antenna and this is why it's so slow - all I know is it's not fit for purpose.

    · Device Manager lists wireless card as Atheros AR9285 however base of laptop lists wireless card as AR5B95.



    Also when using microsoft Word it frequently freezes with Not Responding message.

    Contacted ASUS and they say they don't do refunds and won't do replacement - though I'm not sure a replacement of same model would be any use. Drivers on their site are not for my card . Asked to speak to supervisor - no joy.


    Other owners on ASUS forums have similar problems and have also said support is no help.


    What can I do?? What are my rights?? How can I get a refund??


    Any info / advice appreciated , Cheers

    What anti virus software are you using? Do you have many programs starting up ith the machine? What OS is on it, 7 Starter or XP? Netbooks really arn't designed to be that quick, I don't bother with an Anti Virus on mine for e.g coz it makes things slower. No idea about the wireless thing, although programs freezing is nothing to do with the internet adaptor unless faulty driver, which in this case I think is unlikely.

    Where did you purchase it? If from a retailer, they are the first port of call regarding any consumer issue.

    Plug directly into your router via LAN cable and try surfing for a while (also disable the wifi card temporarily in device manager)

    That will help to narrow down whether the problem is related to wifi, or if it is a non-related software problem.
