As it's coming close to Halloween, I thought I'd pose this.
Feel free to include least-favourites as well, though there's so many now I won't bother :(.

For me, I'm going to go for Treehouse of Horror III:

Clown Without Pity (Killer Krusty doll)
    King Homer (King Kong spoof)
Dial Z for Zombies (I think it's something about vampires? :p)

I think it's the most consistent of all of them, with three great segments and some good gags in the framing story too (though I'm not as big a fan of Dial Z for Zombies as most other people).

As for best segment, I'm going to stay with Treehouse of Horror III and go for King Homer.
Partly because I love the original film and it's a great, faithful homage.
Plus it contains one of my favourite Simpsons exchanges:

Carl: I wish we were goin' to Candy Apple Island.

Lenny? Why, what've they got on Candy Apple Island?

Carl: Apes. But they're not so big.

Homer3 probably runs it a close second, as it's actually kind of sweet and sad.

My favourite episode is Treehouse #5 (Season 6) with "The Shinning" and "Time and Punishment". Nightmare Cafeteria rounds out the show, which is meh, but the other 2 are AAA segments; where every line is a quote! Stupid bug! You go squish now!

"The HΩmega Man" (THOH #8) is another absolute stormer. Hey! Where'd you get those cloaks?!

on a somewhat related topic; i wish one year they'd have 2 THOH episodes in a season so the THOH # would be aligned with the season #. Bit late now I suppose. It sucks that the show-length has gone from ~23 minutes to ~21 -- those two minutes used to be used for placecards, which I thought were great. I'd also say that ~7 minutes isn't enough for a good story, they should just do 2 segments per THOH, imo.

THOH 7 because it has the segment citizen Kang:

    So many brilliant quotes:
Homer:"don't blame me, I voted for kodos"
One of the aliens poosing as Bob Dole:"abortions for all"
Marge: "that's slick willy for you always with the smooth talk"

One of my favorite Simpsons exchanges is in Treehouse of Horror III. The whole "That's good", "That's bad" Homer has with the doll salesman classic.
I also liked the Raven spoof they did in the first one.

As a kid I hated The Raven part, as I found it was so boring and such a letdown as a way to end the episode.

The more I get older, the more I enjoy it though, a little bit like the way I come to appreciate the more gentle humour of season 2 in general.

Just watched this episode recently and having had it and a handful of others taped from my youth off sky and watched a gazillion times, there is some amount of differences. Don't remember Willy getting axed in the 2nd or 3rd short and Moe's hanging at the start of the credits definitely wasn't there. Few other bits too where I was caught going "what the?!"

yes, it's really weird to see old episodes and new footage - Network2/Sky etc must've cut certain 'obscene' words/images for broadcast!

link I found above a little while ago.

For me its Homer3 definitely very funny the whole way through. f I remember correctly there is a "disappeared into fat air" joke from Patty or Selma.
Also starship poopers - the bit where Maggie jumps on Jerry Springers face and he strats giving out
