Is Waterford City Birthday/Hen/Stag Party friendly?

    Hi,

A friend of mine was asking me would Waterford City centre be welcoming to his 30th birthday fancy dress costume theme group pub crawl in 2 weeks time (Sat before Halloween I think he said), I said I didnt know as Im not a regular pub goer but I reckon since Halloween is coming I doubt it would be a problem. He said lads in work in his home town have told him he would get refused in most places and to think about going elsewhere (ie Kilkenny)
Off the top of my head I thinK Geoffs is not a big fan of costume party people - stag/hens/costume birthday groups. Im guessing Dignity might be opened minded to costume themed group. Not sure about Masons and Harveys.

Anyways, I'm no expert to the pub scene so just thought I'd throw it out there to guage opinions and what pub venues people would recommend to visit if he was to bring his birthday group to Waterford?

    - BFG

A couple I know had a fancy dress over the summer, they went to Dignity and over to the Front Lounge afterwards. I've been to Downes and The Forum in fancy dress too, so I'd say there wouldn't be a problem with those places either. Not sure about anywhere else in town though.

Yes in short. Easy to navigate around and a good few good bars and pubs in John Street area and nice few restaurants in that area too.

Id say Masons and Harveys and few others would love to have ye.

Nowhere can really afford to turn custom like that away IMO. I've seen umpteen hen and stag parties in town and they all seem to get on just fine.

If they're turned away somewhere, so what? There are plenty of places to go.

    At €2.50 a drink, I reckon that's fairly friendly.

Not to high-jack the thread or anything but I was thinking during the week, is it better to inform the club if you've a big group coming before hand? I'm not saying so that they'll reserve a section for you, but rather to just tell them as in my experience some of them often turn away big groups of lads.

I'd say the only pub that wouldnt welcome stags/hens etc is Geoffs, but then again they can afford to turn away business. Most of the other pubs would welcome them with open arms Id say.

they,ll only turn away folk if they think the crowd is too loud and rowdy which is understandable as everyone is out to have a good night and not to feel bothered by the antics and loud mouthed fun of stag/hen/birthday

I dont think any club would turn away business in todays climate.
best bet is to contact the bar or club early, either click through on fb or there own website. Have them keep you a spot for friday or saturday.
    Harverys bar brilliant smoking area,
masons good live scene but young crowd up stairs,
shorts is kind of small, but over 21s
crystal is prob the biggest venue but not having the crowd over the last few weeks I believe, over 21s
foundry is the most advanced with biggest invested into lighting systems over20s

best spot harverys not sure how they take to fancy dress older crowd
foundry would prob keep you a spot, seen them running theme nights for students for week days. had a nice crowd over the last few weekends with 2.50 drinks

actually id put the most friendly fancy dress venues as - Shorts, Kazbar, Revolution & Masons, door staff in other venues seem to have a modus operandi
